Dose anybody make a front disc brake kit for a 40 ford axle that I can fit my stock 16" wire wheels on ? Speedway has several kits but none that will take a stock wheel.
    Thanks for your help Brad

Speedway's 5 1/2" bolt pattern brake kit will work with your wheels, using a 1/4" spacer behind the wheel.
The spacer can be sourced from Advance Auto Parts & other stores.
This combo works on my car.

    Thanks for the info!

  4. Information confusion here. 40 wheels are not wires, so can we assume you're not actually talking about a 1940 car?
    35 wires are 16"

Any modern brake other than a copy of a 40 Ford style drum won't let a 16" Ford wire wheel sit down far enough. They all need a thick spacer.

  6. Most disc brakes have an issue with the wheel clearing the calipers. When disc brakes were first a thing on American cars is was always a hastle, disc brake wheels were different. Most of the time you need a spacer between the face of the rotor and the back side of the wheel. Normally between about 3/16 and 3/8".

    I'll retract my statement .
Solid disc wheels Will fit with spacer, wires will not.
I'll take a reading comprehension refresher course.

  9. Okay, again, now we have the whole picture.

    1. Discs will space your wheels out.
    2. You will need THICK spacers for the wheels to clear the top of the rotor hat and support rings for your wheels (you should already know about that.) These spacers will push the wheels even further out.

Net result: very spaced out wheels and buggered up scrub radius.

If you're okay with that, yes, it's doable.
