Mark"Tex"Adams built a motocross powered street bike for some Suzuki rider with the number 199, and we had a little fun with the builders

I love checking out the art in the Friday Art Show's. The bar seems to be consistently higher every week! Spoggie, tinpau, GaryC, Clysdale, Steve V, 1-shot slinger, Jones Foyer, and too many more to mention, beautiful work! Norwell, you're in a class of your own. Thanks for sharing the in progress shots.

Anyone who appreciates Ed Roth, Rick Griffin, San Francisco psychedelic rock posters, and Grateful Dead's skeletons and roses appreciates Stanley Mouse.

"Handful O' Gears" is BOMONSTER's first commissioned logo for a friend who owns hotrodshiftknob.com. When Cam Day asked me to do it and had Stanley Mouse's iconic severed arm holding a shift knob as an example of what he wanted I thought "well there's a challenge: try to beat the Mouse." My immediate idea was to flop the arm to the passenger point of view and "tattoo" the arm with Cam's website name. The problem? You can't see the fingers wrapped around the gear shift knob - or the gear shift knob itself - and the website name was too small to read at business card size. So I went back to the direction Stanley had it. Then I thought I could round the fingers and trim the nails. The problem? The arm lost its comedic value and looked amputated not severed. And it turns out a severed monster arm is funnier than a trucker's amputated arm. Then I tried a skeleton arm with no skin. The problem? It looked halloween, not hot rod. So after 4 or 5 strong attempts to beat the Mouse, we ended up very close to what Mouse originally did 45 years ago. Is anyone really surprised?

My only contribution was to show both the humerus and the radius bones exposed at the severed end vs. just the single humerus bone like Mouse drew it. But come to think of it a single humerus is of course more humorous and that's why Stanley Mouse is the master.

Shirts and stickers will be available at the Lonestar Roundup and at hotrodshiftknob.com

Dutch Courage: Thanks for posting the step-by-step. I always like the behind the scenes stuff. Norwell: Excellent detail all the way to the corners. That shirt model is the cleanest looking garage dude I've ever seen after building a truck that nice. (There must be a client involved). Low Cab: I guess you don't get private emails - your stuff is fine. NotStock: Love that charity print. Plus every page of today's FAS has killer work.

  16. Guiseart,amazing/astounding scratchboard work. I tried it many years ago and quickly found it wasn't as easy as i would have hoped. Looks like you use a Dremel or dental tool or something? How to you lay out the drawing on the scratchboard to start?

Thanks, this one is white pencil on black matboard... the stuff on Myspace is all hand-etching (yes, with a Dremel style tool) on Black Granite. Thanks for noticing!

  26. Thanks for posting this up, Mr. Bo. We're psyched about our new BOMONSTER/HOTRODSHIFTKNOB art and hope everyone at The Lone Star Round Up stops by the Hotrodshiftknob booth to see the limited edition Tees we did up. We'll be handing out free BOMONSTER stickers to all HAMBERS with both our Hot Rod Shift Knob "Handful of Gears" art as well as BOMONSTER's "BOMONSTER Avatar". Make room on your tool boxes, bumpers and lunch buckets. See ya at the show, everyone!
