Dave MacDonald driving the Mickey Thompson/Sears Allstate Special
at the 1964 Indy 500. Dave lost his life in this car at that race. I was heartened by his Son and Wife's
appreciation for the piece. You never know how people will view something that brings memories of loss.
But they looked at it like I did. A great driver, gone far to early.

 

a golden oldie from me:

 

The Barn Find.
I actually did have a barn find... over thirty years ago. I have no idea what happened to the car, which I think was a 1931 Buick Sedan. The barn, and the car, where within a few miles of my home back then. The property owner said to me; "you like cars; wanna see something neat?" I've sat on this picture since then and decided to doll it up a little.

WOW. Some really AWESOME stuff this week guys! You guys make me want to keep honing my skills. I don't have anything this week. A few photos, but I'm trying to stay away from digital manipulation and actually illustrate from scratch...a lot more time consuming. I'll have stuff next week.

Awesome show! Lets keep it going, here's a undone oldie weirdo thingy.

 

I'm late to the show this week ...

 

Loosely, from Sir Jack Brabham's excellent biography;

Masten Gregory was known as a fearless driver, and at that race, of the Thompson cars, he told Jack Brabham, "it's absoloutely an accident waiting to happen. Under full tanks it's totally terrifying'.
Sir Jack missed day 1 qualifying and was therefore behind McDonald on the form-up lap, keeping a keen eye on the odd- looking Thompson car ahead. In turn 2 & 3 the car was outta shape. In four, it flicked broadside, spearing down inside, exploding off the concrete wall like a napalm bomb, and then richoceting, before the Eddie Sachs collision.
Jack instantly hit brakes and drove through the flames. He said he believed Masten Gregory's words saved his life.

 

I had a discovery like that in '82. '27 Chev sport coupe.

 

Ron, I dig tuning in every week and seeing the contributions. I also enjoy watching your talents expand. The junkyard is pretty cool. Keep them coming!
