Did I mention the wheel adapters arrived, and I am geeked about the XKE style wires? Little sporty car radials up front, big tall LT tires out back, yeah baby, no bias plys on this one.

Well, I don't know if it's all that dramatic, but I am excited about it. ;-)

When the body is on and you make engine sounds sitting behind the wheel it should hit ya. Joe

It was SO tempting to set the body on yesterday, but, I resisted. ;-) I need to touch up some spots on the tops of the frame rails and horns, run brake lines, rear shock mounts, before that happens. Soon, very soon...

Great progress. Like I said earlier, can't wait to see it at Relix!
    Cheers,

It's up on all four! My buddy Jake helped me with the new kingpin bushings, I painted the spindles today and put the Wilson Welding brakes and Buick drums, and have setting on wheels. I'll pull it back apart to paint and detail the brakes, but it looks pretty good right out of the box, don'cha think?

This is point where, when building a model car, I'd get glue on the windshield and finger prints in the paint... 17308886_10213075670349050_7401463085174746495_n.jpg

I haven't had much time lately to work on the '34, but today I squeezed in a couple of hours and managed to re-mount the radiator and grill shell, mock up the hood, align those and drill some new holes in the mount pads. Now, when I take it apart to paint the body and sheet metal, I can (hopefully) put it all back together and have things aligned this well. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn close. 17523718_10213176088859450_3466695362694935998_n.jpg 17626384_10213176088499441_1502518482958149357_n.jpg

These are the F100 shock mounts that came with the pile of parts for the project. Since I don't need them as shock mounts (using Houdaille shocks up front) I bent them out, twisted the upright a little, and welded a tab on the stud for the '37 Chevy headlight bolt to drop onto. I think they 're perfect, although I still have to clock the reflector, lens, and trim ring on the right side headlight to orient the lens the correct way. I'll use Halogen bulbs in new sockets, and a separate blinker/park light bulb as the reflectors already are set up that way. Dig it.

  18. I feel your pain. Aligning the front sheetmetal on the '33-36 models is a real pain!
    Looks great!

It was a challenge getting the posts to fit the cowl and stand at the same angle, requiring some modifications to the original mounting holes, the bracing inside the cowl, and grinding on the bottoms of the bronze posts. It finally fit after several hours of work, but I wondered if I'd now have trouble getting the top irons to fit the w/s posts.
Today I sat the top on, and "HUZZAH!" the front bow dropped right on the posts, the fit is perfect. Now, I don't like the "loft" of the original bows, the 2nd bow is goofy looking, much too high. The third, or rear bow is fine, the mounts are just dropped in the body 2", but bow #2 has to come down. That means I can't use the weathered Haartz canvas top on the irons, which I really, really like, new canvas will have to be made, and that means the weathered look I want will have to change.
Well, at least the top irons fit.

Can't that material be "taken in"? BTW, from that angle it doesn't look bad, but then you've got the vision and you know what you want.

That quote and the fact that there is a chain saw in a box lying in front of the car makes me nervous

Car is looking great. I have been doing the same fitting up front on my car. Move one thing and everything else takes off, frustrating. Yours is looking great!

So, after an initial fiasco in which the really narrow front tires I picked wouldn't inflate on the 6" rims, and the chrome flaked off the rim due to the compressed air blast from trying (it would have flaked off driving it anyway, of course that was the ONE wheel I hadn't had out of the box and closely inspected), we have the car up on it's wheels and tires. I ended up going with a modern radial tire, after my experience with the '36, in which the bias ply's didn't handle well, flat spotted, and were generally miserable, we have rubber on the road.
    Or, garage floor.
23575R15's out back, 16570R15's up front. Nice rubber rake, the front's are a wider than I'd have liked, but they're OK height-wise, and I think with the sheet metal on, and painted, will look fine.
I'm going to now have to media-blast and pain the rims, as the right front has a big area of missing chrome in the spoke nipples, so they'll probably end up a cream color, which will match the steering wheel and the cream color in the plaid interior fabric. I'll leave them alone until it's all painted and together and then decide, but I like them already, it looks like I'd imagined it, great rubber rake, and the wires look different enough to make me happy.
I also just got the gas tank, rubber brake lines, and a bunch of other trinket parts to get it together, and will order the black single stage paint soon, so it's moving forward. 18274931_10213501510594790_4918307355235752013_n.jpg 18274902_10213501508154729_1356496336019245577_n.jpg

Oh. And the Walker radiator has had the lower hose outlet moved to the right side. So, there's that done too.
