Who makes the best pumps? Speedway? From there article they look pretty high zoot-

Can I Rebuild them at home? I have a press- whats the skinny- I've never really had too many problems but my passenger side pump is the equivalent to Niagra falls... and so sign of letting up.

The new pumps are probably all the same. I picked one up from Little Dearborn. Speedway is probably cheaper. I don't know which style you have to rebuild but from my experience, the early car pumps ( 3? to 48) are not worth rebuilding. Have a bushing rather than the larger bearing that the new ones have. The truck pumps can be rebuilt.

That is what I know and maybe more. Neal

huh- the speedway pumps are $89 each. I guess I should order those and have them shipped here quick- I've had pretty good luck with speedway but I'm afraid that when I really NEED something they're gonna get me.

Tuck, what year pumps do you need? I have two for the one that goes on the heads NOS that a freind gave me..
As for the maker of the waterpumps that speedway carries . It's a company in Elgin IL and they sell to most of the vendors out their. I have been trying to get the springs put in there..

only problem i found with the new waterpumps, speedway or the others, is that there is no more boss for the heater hose...there are ways around it but still...

The nice thing about these pumps with the big bearings is that you don't have to worry about running the belts too tight. The original ones with the bushings didn't like much belt tension, it would tear up the bushings.

We called speedway 3 days ago to order 2 truck pumps (wide pully) They said they were out until Jan '07. So I ordered 2 from C&G and had them in 2 days. They're different than speedway but the're made by Airtex, the company that made them for ford originaly $11O apiece

I bought a pair of pumps from speedway for the french flathead slated to go in the coupe later next year.In the meantime my 21 stud motor `s pumps packed in (leaked like crazy) and I bought a pair of rebuild kits for them.I fit the parts and fitted them to the motor and then greased ¬em....big mistake...I hydrauliced the front of the casing on the first pump right off...my fault..just ignorance.I then bought a pair of "NEW" pumps off Daryl Fryer in California, He makes all new pumps(castings, internals and pullys)in house. They have stainless shafts, improved impellors, sealed roller bearings and ceramic seals. They are a work of art.He insisted that I take the pumps for free!!!fit them and only if I was satisfied, was I to send him payment. He is a true gent and a breath of fresh air in this money mad world...I still cant believe his business practice..but I believe he has shipped all over the world and never had any one cock on him.In fact, even if the pumps were wrong, Id have paid him as he is such a sound guy.

I believe 53ASH used speedway pumps on his flattie and it runs cool with no problems even on the hot long ride to the drags last month.

I've rebuilt flattie water pumps with kits I ordered from Carpenter's a few years ago. I did a set for a friend and a set for myself and to my knowledge they never did leak. The main problem I ran into was getting the pulleys off without breaking them. I've used up my stock of narrow pulleys.
By the way Tuck, you're coupe is great looking piece of work, as is all your work. I hope to see it in person someday. I look forward to your posts.

I used Skip to rebuild these aluminum pumps. I liked the design of his impeller, seems like it would have less turbulence and aeration.

Flatyoungin, these are aftermarket aluminum pumps. But I have seen what I thought was original aluminum pumps. Don't know what they came on or when...where's Bruce Lancaster when you need him....

  30. I was wondering how long it would take before Skip's pumps were mentioned here.

There's some folks on the Ford Barn that worship his pumps and coils  .
