Hi, Time for another of my "How was it really questions". In the early to mid fifties how common were aftermarket flathead heads? I ask this because it seems a lot of the cars built today to represent this time period are using stock heads. I thought this was more of a pre war thing as most pictures I have seen from the early fifties show a lot of finned aluminum heads. Thanks, --louis
Unfortunately the big name heads (Offenhauser, etc) are not of the same quality as they were back in the 50's. That's probably one of the reasons a lot of builders are milling original heads to raise compression ratios.
