    Hi,

Time for another of my "How was it really questions". In the early to mid fifties how common were aftermarket flathead heads? I ask this because it seems a lot of the cars built today to represent this time period are using stock heads. I thought this was more of a pre war thing as most pictures I have seen from the early fifties show a lot of finned aluminum heads.

    Thanks,

Unfortunately the big name heads (Offenhauser, etc) are not of the same quality as they were back in the 50's. That's probably one of the reasons a lot of builders are milling original heads to raise compression ratios.
