FLATHEAD fuel pump dilema....ARGH!

just replaced my head and intake gaskets on 59a

no fuel pressure....wont even drip into glass bowl

am I forgetting something...done this a few times.

Did you forget the fuel pump rod?

 

nope... rods good

and on the arm

very good seal, and hard to press when Im pushing the arm when the pumps off

 

you might of missed the pocket in the fuel pump where the rod sits .other words its in crooked ,not seated properly.

Maybe the fuel system needs to be primed.

 

If it is like the 59A block that I have, the fuel pump rod had an "umbrella type thing' on it that kept the rod straight in the hole.

 

When was it started last? Some of those babies took a while to get gas up to bowl if the line is empty to tank. I;ve taken air hose with a rag around the filler and give a "little shot "of air to help fuel along,or hand choke the carb til you see fuel comin up....... hope this helps

 

I'll usually bottle feed the carb:] till the pump and line primes.
