i`m thinking about making a couple of torque plates from a pair of old heads. does anyone have any practical experience with using torque plates on a flathead ford? do the cylinders distort that much that it would be worth going thru the trouble and expense? thanx.

Boring with torque plates and the main caps torqued is the best way.

I`m going to make a set never thought about the main caps
I would say two steel heads with big holes in them so the hone can go through them
and use the studs or bolts your gonna use and washers to get them the same height
as the heads your gonna use if needed

The head bolts/studs distort the bore a bunch.A friend of mine checked the before & after with bolts/studs & was shocked on how much distortion there is.He now uses torque plates on all the flatheads he works on.
