some of the stainless pieces on my poncho have a pretty good coating of pepto pink primer on them, whats the best way to get the shit off without totally screwing up the stainless surface, of will i have to do alot of polishing no matter how i get it off? I really hate polishing to I'm trying to find another way....

  2. try super fine steel wool with laquer thinner on it. works good, but dont get it on anything else!

The best way is to take it off the car and use thinner (Lacquer or enamel reducer) to take the paint off. If not possible to take off, the method mentioned above is probably the only way.

I used nail poilsh remover (acitone) to get the paint off the trim on my old wagon. I took the trim off and hit it with a little bit of my ex-chicks nail polish remover and it took the overspray right off. Granted, there wasn't very much of it (just a section that wasn't taped off too well during a touch-up). If there would have been more of it I would have actually gone down to home depot and bought a quart of Acitone or M.E.K to do the job.

Brass wool works nicely. It has "bite", but doesn't scratch stainless as easily as steel wool. [IMG]

  8. hey, i didnt know there was brass wool.im gonna look for some!thanks man!

  9. Get some good grade automotive stripper and lay it on nice and even and thick and let it do it's thing. IT wont hurt the stainless and it will be the least amount of work. When it softens or bubles the paint just use a plastic squegee or a bondo spreader, something that wont scratch the stainless underneath to scrape the paint off. This would be the least offensive meathod that wouldn't mar the stainless. If you use steel wool you will have to polish the stainless after you are done. But if it is already scratched or had been sanded on you will have to polish it anyway.
