Superb work so far, loving this, I am subscribed. I love to see rough bodies like this come back together. The willingness and ability to save stuff like this is the future of hot rodding.

Your right, there is quite a bit more involved than just getting the door in the opening. I spent a lot of time pushing and pulling and hammering things around to get everything squared up. So far I think I have more time in squaring stuff up and bracing it than I do in actual fabrication work. There doesn't appear to be an instruction manual on piecing one of these back together, so I am just making things up as I go.

 

One of the things I discovered by accident was the 2 doors had different arch's top to bottom on the B post edge. That was very clear when I leaned the doors against the wall B edge to B edge. That was a Holly Cow moment. Explained partly why I couldn't get a good X number at the B pillar on the body. And it went on and on. I can understand how your feeling right about now.

33 chev parts are very hard to come by, especially rear fenders !! I hope you picked them up from behind the car , even if your not going to use them .
Are you going to make you own trunk lid or do you have one ?

 

Yes I have all the fenders, I never throw anything away no matter how rough.
I will be making my own trunk lid, I have the original hinges but nothing else.

Being a dyed in the wool 33/34 Ford guy, I like the Chevy Coupe's too but like you, don't care for the tailpan's and will be curious to see how you mod yours. I've got a cowl and solid roof/quarters of a 34 5/w Chevy body I may toss together one day. Casually keeping an eye out for doors (I believe 4 dr Sedan doors can be made to work).

 

[] Those rear frame extensions are ugly for sure. I was going to cut mine out and raise the rear frame horns to follow the trunk floor. Sold the car before I could really get going on it.

 

I kinda like the abbreviated rear pan like that....maybe some clean up. But in general.....

 

Small world. My buddy and I (both Chevy addicts) bought some '37-'38 parts from the same guy.

Hey how did you make that rear rain gutter? Shrinker strecher to get it to turn? I have to do the same thing.

 

Was trying to figure out how to do the sub rails in my 33 chevy 5 window looks like you have the answer thanks your coupe is looking great.

 

Basically. I made it out of 2 L shaped halves, shrinker stretched them to contour, and then welded the 2 sections together.

there is a current thread where a guy has a rusty trunk floor and a bad patch of frame on his otherwise unmolested original car and he is wondering whether or not he should just part it out.
