Well it's been 2 1/2 years since I last drove my truck, it had the flathead 6 then. But it started knocking, and I had this 331 Chrysler, so why not! This truck is not done, but it's drivable! Up and down the driveway a few times, then up and down the road, sure felt good. Need to work the bog out of the carbs, but was able to do a good burnout! Next stop the muffler shop. Still trying to decide on wheels. See my first test drive on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7WaK38wvb8
Thanks, I pulled the Cragars off my coupe so I could put the truck on the ground. Not sure I want both my rods to have the same wheels though. But I need some old school looking wheels, I'm thinking maybe Radirs?
Don't stop at the muffler shop. It sounds fantastic! Congrats on the drive. I drove my Plymouth from the front yard to the back yard Friday. That thing is so fun! (flathead).
I need to work on the carbs for sure. One is a 1952 and one is a 1954 Carter, hope I can make them work out. Nothing else fits an Edmunds Intake.
Hauled it to the muffler shop on a dolly, didn't want to drive 10 miles open manifolds. Putting Cherry Bombs on it. But this afternoon the first drive of any distance. Time to get this hemi all broke in.
Awesome car !!! And great combination... That first drive is indeed a rush....I just did mine about a month ago..... Good for you. Keep us posted, and how about another video with the exhaust on ?? Cheers,
Got it home, now that ride was fun! Dual Cherry Bombs sound great! Nice 10 mile drive, 40 degrees, no heater yet. BRRR. But it drives nice and straight, no funny vibrations, no real issues. Got to 65 mph, that's enough for today. But the 331 got to 185 degrees, it's only 40 outside, i don't know if this stock radiator will do come summer. But this sure motivates me to finish this truck!
Nothing like getting one driveable to up your motivation! Well done! I thought it sounded great before the mufflers, put up a vid with the Cherry bombs on it, please!
Sweet!! I love seeing an old hemi in a pickup! A little stealthy! Some of the better informed hear my motor in my old truck and know it's not stock - so they ask what it is - usually I tell them it's just an old chrysler motor.
Glad you all liked it. I'll try to put a video on with the sound of the new dual exaust. I've still got lots of little things like turn signal wiring, floor patching, heater install, etc, etc, but at least I can drive it now! As soon as Im satisfied with my results, and no more issues, I'm putting the fenders and the top of the hood back on. And I think I'm going with Cragar Polished Eliminators and blackwalls. What do you guys think of Eliminators on this truck? The Cragar SS go back on my Coupe.
Thanks farmer12 ! I've made more progress, lights & turn signals all done, Dual exaust with short Cherry Bombs, been driving it a little, drives nice and straight with no bad vibes! The Hemi pulls hard and lights the tires easily! But I can't keep the hemi cool on hot days. I dropped off the stock radiator at Saldana Racing, they're making me a new one. Here is a picture of the wheels I bought. Chrome 15" Cragar Eliminators.
Very nice build, keep up the good work. You have to keep them cool, either copper or aluminum will do the trick. I'm sure that your shop will do the right thing!
