I got that wheel through Kevin Lee from here on the HAMB. My brother traded some painting or something for it. I think they only made like a dozen or so of them. I met Kevin when I was visiting KC and he told me about the HAMB and the t-5 to closed drive shaft adapter. I was happy to find this place. I eventually did get one of the adapters crazydaddyo was making. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
you got lucky on the adapter . as far as I know he doesn't make them anymore . nice steering wheel . like you , every once in awhile I run onto a deal on one off stuff . I run a t-5 but open shaft . nice trans . yes this forum has a lot of good info …….…. good luck … steve
Thanks. I read some T-5 tech here that talked about swapping Jeep, astrovan, s10 and other non WC transmission parts you can get a better set of ratios. A higher OD gear and better spacing. The s10 trans I have first and second are a little low for my taste. I will have to start figuring out what parts to find. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Got the engine is painted and in. I have the head on now too. Hooking things back up and hopefully start it this week some time. I am a little under the gun as the hill climb is in 5 weeks. Not quite as intense as it was thrashing on the car to make the 2016 event. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Haha. I am running the Snyder’s 6:1. I am working on getting my super Winfield repaired and will swap it out. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Finally read threw the whole thread after seeing photos of it the last few years. Great build! Out of curiosity what’s the top cruising speed with the t5? I know I’ve seen stock A’s run down the road at 55 so it’s got me curious.
my car witht-5 & quick change + 3.27 gears will cruise at 60 mph all day , 65 if I need it but 60mph is 1800 rpm .
Babbitt tends to die if run hard a lot . some people like Babbitt & have no problem , but stock the center main doesn't like to be run hard . 30" rears , light weight suv tires . some are very heavy . q/c is not od . 1-1
With a stock Engine and stock 3.78 gears on stock model a 19" I could go 60+MPH but the car vibrated and sounded like to was going to blow up. With the counterbalanced crank and new modern bearings I hope to cruise about 65. I don't run a tac so I don't know the RPMs I am running. I have a bit of a cooling issue if I drive too fast. much like my stocker roadster. Fifth gear on my S-10 trans is about 15% OD I think. Hope that helps! I am planning on buying a 4 row radiator to help with the cooling. I am saving my pennies for that one.
The T-5 I am running is 1986 4wd s-10 Blazer. at least that is what it was labeled as. I haven't researched it to find out exactly what it is. First and second are a bit low for my taste but 3,4 and 5 are awesome!
Cool. Had been curious about running a similar set up and needed to know if cruising speed would be acceptable
The S10 T5 lower gear set is: 4.03, 2.37, 1.49, 1.00 and 0.86. The gap between 1st and 2nd is fairly large. Being 1.66 apart. The spread is 4.89. The higher gear set is: 3.76, 2.18, 1.41, 1.00, and 0.72. First and second are closer, at 1.53 apart. It does not sound like much, but it makes a noticeable difference getting off the line. 0.13 sounds small, until you consider that 0.14 is the entire overdrive gear gap on the lower set. The spread is 4.48.
Are you running a torque tube conversion? If so, which one, and how is it working? I am thinking of building a single-seat speedster, and am toying with the idea of keeping a torque tube.
Yes he is running a torque tube conversion, it’s the one that was previously being made by a guy here on the hamb to work on the s10 4x4 t5
Yes Crazy Daddy O made my conversion. It works well. There is another guy making a similar one I saw at the end of the T-5 to torque tube thread a while ago. I also think Crazy Daddy O's conversion is being made by another company these days but I am not sure if that is true and what the name of the company is. I am sorry I don't have any more info on it. I was worried about the little adapter I made for the front that goes from the T-5 to a stock Model A disk. I took it apart when I pulled the engine for the new one and it looks great and I couldn't be happier. There are details about what I did to get that part to work earlier in this thread.
I know @CTaulbert built his own conversion for the coupe a while back. Think he posted how he went about it if you felt ambitious
I have a Haas and a Hardenge. Making stuff ain't too hard, but paying someone is often easiest, as I don't have a ton of free time these days.
Got the new engine started last night. I am finishing up a few things and then some test driving. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Yes. I am able to cruise along about 60-65 with no trouble. I am happy. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
