Gorgeous truck, the off white wheels really go well with the color. You fooled me, when I got to the third picture, I was sure it would be a flathead. Not unhappy to see the Chevrolet, just surprised. What did you use for a shifter?

2 years ago I sold a 40 with a flathead at auction. The buyer told me the motor is what sold him, then asked "is it's a 6 or an 8?" Turned out he just liked the bling (had polished heads, intake, carbs, ect). I've found out a simple sbc sells just as well as anything at a lot lower build cost, my personal preferance does not at these auctions. The shifter is just a standard off the shelf Lokar.
It's public knowledge on Barrett-Jackson web page so no reason I shouldn't say, they hammered it at 50K even. Took out some of the hurt seeing it go. Building a 39 Standard Tudor and an OT Mustang for the Scottsdale auction so this money will get flipped into them, it'll keep the shop rocking a few more months anyway.

  13. Good for you man. That is a hell of a truck for that kind of money. Hope you did okay. Beautiful work. Definitely a great deal.

We did OK. Like I said we came out ahead, not by much but as long as I don't lose money it's all good. I really felt fortunate we got what we did, there was some serious bargains there. There was a drop dead gorgest 40 Deluxe Tudor there, a street rod for sure but a nice one, lazer straight black paint, Halibrands, all the bells and whistles, claimed 150K build (I believe it) that hammered for 40K, felt sorry for the seller. For a simple build with really nothing, no power anything (except HP!), no A/C, not even a radio and we end up in the top 10% of the auction I feel good.

Seems to be some interest so I'll throw a couple more pics up.
We've been doing quite a few 39/40 Fords lately and here's how we set up front axles. The axle itself is original that Sid in Oklahoma dropped 2". They say you can't run a sway bar and tube shocks on a 40 but we came up with this design, seems to work real well and sway bars are a must with buggy springs on these fat fendered cars IMHO. The sway bar came off of some small front wheel drive Ford at the Pull-a-part, fits pretty good. With a reversed eye spring it still sits a touch to high so we sectioned the front cross member 1", that leaves about 2" from the axle to the bump stops, rides good. Add the bigger Saginaw steering box and a panhard bar and it's good to go.

Rear suspension is real simple. We use triangulated ladder bars, we build our own but they're like P&J or Socal's.We build the rear spring hangers on the axle to sit 2" lower then a stock axle, reverse eye the spring. Add tube shocks and a sway bar (this one is off a 79 T-Bird) call it good. Did have to play with subtracting leaves to get the stance right yet stiff enough to have about 2 1/2 to 3" space to the bump stop. Stance is all important but I hate it if they bottom out all the time.

FWIW check out the original cab floor to the truck, it's great living in the desert SW!

  16. Beautiful. Is the name of your shop the same as your avatar sign? Hard to find good metal men in my parts. Sad, too. DFW metroplex, you would think would have plenty. Not so. Mostly insurance specialists that don't like anything without import crash parts. We do have a few nice rod shops, but again...not as much as you would expect to find.

Yeah, that's the name of our shop.
Gee, I've built a 40 standard Tudor, a 39 standard coupe, this 40 pickup and finishing a 39 standard Tudor all for auction in the last couple years, decided to try something different for a change. Then I come across a nice 41 pickup project for sale this weekend....
