Finally got my dad's roadster painted...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jalopy gal, Sep 24, 2008.

  1. May not be the best job but home built deserves home sprayed, right! It was my first time spraying so I'm pretty proud of myself.:D And my dad thought it was good which was my main concern. Now it's time for the wiring and getting it put back together.

Looks great. Now all we gotta do is thrash it at the Salt for a few more years. Rinse and repeat.

Pat yourself on the back...when people ask..."who did the paint and build?" You only have to think of one person. :)

You did great, in my opinion. Scallops are a classic motif.

  7. I know. I thought of wearing that for my Halloween costume but then I thought....wait won't that mask just cover my "face"....mask!!!

Bitch'n. Great combination of style, restraint, and talent. Definitely a job well done.

Looks good! Congrats on your first paint job. I'd like to say it gets easier each time but I haven't found that true yet :D Your lucky to have your Pops to build with and he's lucky to have you!

Ain't NOTHIN' better than homebuilt. It looks great to me, much better than a lot of paint jobs that are done by folks claiming to be well experienced.
You obviously spent a lot of time on the lay-out and prep.....Be proud of it; it's well deserved.

Nice job, I like it. How high up in the air is it & why??? Is it easier to paint the bottom with it that high??? I don't like painting on a ladder.

I also like to wrap the hose your holding in your left hand around the back of my neck so it doesn't ever come into play with paint.

Just a few other tips for garage painting. Wetting the floor to control the dust. Grounding the body to the floor to eliminate static dust.
A siphon feed or bucket is good for priming...but a HVLP or will put down more paint on the piece then in the air. Harbour freight has a usable one.
Prep makes a garage paint job look ten times better.

  20. I did have the hose around my neck at one point (thanks to dads advice) and we had it on the saw horses so I could get under it a bit. I'm 5' 3" so it wasn't too high off the ground. I was just standing on a high stool to get the top sprayed. It wasn't the best area to get the work done but you have to make do sometimes. I do look at it and think it could be better but you are always your worst critic.

Once again, It's a great job... Your miles ahead of most beginers in the paint department.

The best advice you'll ever get is this one I got from a pinstriper/custom painter 43 years ago....

"Look at every job as nothing more than practice for the next one".

    Keeps me focused (and humble).

Looks Great!!!! Do You plan on color sanding, and polishing? I'm working on painting my truck, The doors have color on them, just have to do the rest of the prep. on the body( how much fun is block sanding:p) I bet your glad it had such small panels. I think its great you are willing to learn by getting your hands dirty.
