Congrats from one 40 lover owner to another. I have owned my coupe just about as long as you have been dreaming. I also like your avatar. I have the poster hanging on my wall. It was done by an acquaintance from Lewiston, Idaho. Kevin Beason. Good luck.

  7. Here are a couple of photos of the coupe right after I got it out of the trailer. The original interior is still in the car. The body is really straight. I'm going to do an inventory of what's there and then get to work on my other frame. The car currently has a mustang front and Fred Flintstone parallel leaf spring deal in the back. The other frame has a dropped I-Beam with split wishbones and all CE parts including a new rear leaf spring and transmission kit. The I-Beam has disc's right now, but I may go back to drums? I want to use 16" original wheels.
I picked up some nearly new Drake running boards at Hershey for 1/2 price. I need bumper arms both front and rear. I guess I'll start my list...This will be fun...it's long over due. Any ideas will be appreciated. more pics of the build will be posted.

Hey Murph. Congrats on the 40. I have a question for you about it. The Mustang front end that is installed in the chassis,is it a store bought cross-member or a home frabricated install? I think I recognize this 40.

  10. Hey Baron...it looks store bought?? the original CM is still in the car as well. The car came from Raynham, Ma. An older fella named Richard Morton had the car for more than 17 years. He is supposed to get me the info on the guy who put the front end on the car. I'm still going with my other frame though. Do you think you have any other info on the car?

  11. Sawzall...If I can use the discs with the 16" wheels...I'll certainly keep them. Would need new rotors with 5x5.5 pattern.

Thanks for the tip. Let's talk more about it.

Good find. A 40 coupe would be my choice if i did'nt have my 55. I just think those cars have such a cool bad boy image. The SBC is a good choice, especially if your going drive it alot.Just my 2 cents.FALFA

It is the 40 I thought. I even had the car at my shop maybe 20 years ago for some work(I swapped him the deluxe hood and grille that is currently on the car for his standard parts). The guy who installed the front end and rear leaf springs is a HAMB member ( hotrodder3 ). PM him and he may be able to fill you in with a little more info about Bob K"s 40. The original owner(Bob K) who sold it to Morton is in our club, the Northshore Strokers. Bob had the 40 coupe , a 40 pick up and a 40 sedan. Today he owns a 40 sedan I put together back in 1983. The 40 you just bought is a very solid, nice body, and to put that on a traditional chassis is a great idea. If you want,PM me and I will give you Bob's number and you could give him a shout and I know he could give you the history of the coupe. I do know he owned fro a very long time(longer then Morton did). Hope this helps and good luck with your new baby.

  14. A quick update. Thanks to Baron, I have talked to Bob K, the owner from 1967 to about 2005. We had a great conversation and I told him I was going to replace the frame with a more traditional setup..i.e. Dropped Axle, Split Wishbones etc. I will be going with a SBC, a 1968 327 which has been rebuilt, Tri-Power, and a Saginaw 3-speed to hook up to an original column shift....Kool.

The extra frame is out getting media blasted along with the rear fenders. My plan is to get the frame and drivetrain setup over the winter, then get the body sitting on the new frame asap afterwards. I'll post some photos after I get the frame back home.

Also, Bob K said he may still have some parts from the coupe and some old photos to boot...Thats really Kool. Thanks again Baron for the connection to Bob.

Nice, the coupe with split back seats and opera seats is, in your case, a 1940 DeLuxe Business Coupe.

Maybe someday I'll have a coupe to match my sedan. Congrats on your purchase- It would be tough to get rid of the woodie though... err.. wait.....

  18. PS,

    I thought the same thing about the Woodie...but I really wanted a 40 Coupe...it's been a month and I haven't thought about the Woodie at all...Go figure...LOL

Hey Murph. My pleasure. Glad to be able to put you guys together. Bob is a good guy. It is great when you can find out a little "history" of your car. Look forward to seeing pictures as your build progresses. It will be nice to see this, once again, cruising the streets. Enjoy the build.

  26. Hi All,

Been gathering alot of parts since my last post. Nearly all of them have come from other H.A.M.B. members...Thanks to everyone.

The extra frame is on the rotisserie. It was media blasted and I have everything to get going in earnest. I'll get some progress photos up soon. Man, I can't wait to get these parts mocked up...its gonna be sweet!
