I have two-door doors and a straight axle. Future gasser
I think if they could everybody would build a Willy's or Anglia gasser but the 55' Chevy with radiused fender wells is pretty much the poor mans gasser.
Gota go 55
Would build a 56 as a custom for cruising, candy apple red and white. As a hot rod, definitely a 57 150 black widow clone. Would like almost any of them in my garage.

'56s rule. They are all great, but the '56 stands out. Subtle, slightly understated, just BADASS !
I like all three, 55, 56, & 57. My personal favorite for a hot rod is a 57 Chevy 210 Post 2 door which is what I have. Love the Two Lane Blacktop 55, also love the 56's too. Can't get enough of the Hollywood Nights 57 with no hood and a blown small block.
As to which one is the classiest, I think if you wanted a restored drop top, it would have to be a 57, make mine in Tropical Turquoise with a white top or Harbor Blue with the light blue top, or maybe Surf Green with a white top. So hard to choose.
The classiest fixed roof Tri-Five for me would the 56 Chevy Bel-Air Post 2 door. Definately my vote for the prettiest of all the Tri-5's bar none. I think Chevy did the best job of styling the side trim on the Bel-Airs in 56 although to non car people the 57 is probably more famous. The 56 in 2 tone Nassau Blue & White is a work of art.
Love 57s but 55s just do it for me.
1955 even though I have a 56.
my favorite is the 7. but, i'm real partial to 5's also.
'56 me for me, I'm think'n '55 or '56 for my brother Marc, but we had a hard time deciding, so we got a couple of everything
Marc has a pretty cool 60's style black and silver 55 tudor
Belair Sedan W/ 15x4 & 15x7 Cragar SS's too, but the stink'n pic won't down load!
I have had them all and its the 55 for me
..,ooops, forgot a couple
The '56 2dr HT for elegance and stout cruiser: Skyline/Harbor Blue two tone that rocks for a STOCK combo. A '55 with the wheel wells hogged out (ala stock car) and a tilt/removable front end for simple access to the radical rat motor. A '57 lime metalic green w/chrome straight axle & rear end for a semi street freak with flash. ALL wheels to be old, old ones refurbished to keep the theme to a early '70's at the most.
have owned 4 56's. 2-2dr posts.a nomad(wish I'd never let go of) and presently own a 56 sedan delivery.I like 56's
The newest pic of my scrap iron. Been in the family for 40 yrs. I love all the tri-fives and think the '56 doesn't get enough love. Been around them all my life. My folks even brought me home from the hospital in a '56 4dr h/t. Guess that makes me prejudice huh?
Tough question. For me the 57 has the best rear end, the 55 has the best front end, and the 56 has the best sides.
Anybody ever built a 56 with a57 rear clip, and a 55 front clip? Probably not.
Being a bit more of a drag racer than a classic car guy, I'd take a 55 with radiused rear fenders and fenderwheel headers.
Before you 55 guys get too smug ... for 50 bucks difference, I'd take a 56 or 57.

I agree the 56 doesn't get the recognition it deserves. You hardly see them at all in my area.
I love the lines of the 55, but i may be biased
Id like to own a 56 for a cruser too.
The wheels have been on this since 74, thinking about chrome reverse with baby moons when I repaint it this winter.
Got any side shots of your 55? That thing looks pretty clean with no paint on it!
Here is another one. I just found it on the web.
Well, I'll be darned. A Tri Five all in one car just the way I described!
Anybody got the info on this? Bitchin!!!
I like the 55's. Always have, always will. I have had this one for 41 years, it is my first car.
My old '55 2DHT.
I've had my '55 210 2dr post since 1970, but a '56 Nomad would nice.
When I was a kid it was strictly 57's for me (although I did have a 55 two door post belair, but I got screwed on the title to that one). But now I would have to say of all makes and models of the tri fives my favorite is the 55 Nomad.
The '56 has always been the redheaded step child of the tri fives . But each one is so different yet so much alike.
love my '56 front end sans bumper.
