Fastest you've ever been?

  1. In 1979 I pegged the speedo at 120 in a 69 Plymouth Satellite with a 383 4 bbl. Pretty scary because that car was really floating. Fun car to drive, though.

...150+ in a 427/425 4-speed 'vette back in 1967. Decided to get off I-75 South at Howell Mill Rd. in Atlanta doing around 90. 1967 'vettes had good brakes too!!!

I am so glad to see some honesty here. Seems like everyone I have every talked to has the 160mph and still had some left story.

Personally: I was clocked at 149 on a 1000 Ninja ( fastest ever)
125mph in my 72 Chevelle (Fastest in car)
Quickest was 10.32 at 128 on the dragbike

Can't resist this thread. Went past 143 in my '94 RX7 when I quit looking at the speedo and still could feel the car accelerating. I finely beat that S2000. And most recently - 147 on my '10 Vmax. They may not be hot rods but I'm telling you the adrenalin rush was out of this world.

Oh, tops on the '58 Dodge D400 truck, 59 mph.:D

    140+ '86 V8 S10 Blazer
142 '95 Impala SS -like floating on a cloud
    173 '06 Suzuki GSXR-600 -Weighing 130lbs ='s hard to hold on

Not the brightest moments in my life. All these were on the highway. Fun part was passing a cop at 150 on the bike. He just turned the lights on and off, and that was it. I wanted to buy a Hyabusa and see if I could hit 200 on the road, then I decided I wanted to keep breathing unassisted.

130 in a 2002 Eldorado. Anything past 130 and the motor shuts itself down. Took the 56 Fairlane down route 17 last year in Jacksonville, NC doing about 120. I was TRYING to break it! 120+ in a 4 door Fairlane with a Y-Block and a 3 on-the-tree. I was impressed.

bout a buck 20 (120) on the charlotte speedway in the avatar (gets real squirly needs bigger sway barsa) and a 57 ford 4dr hardtop. 2 hours later on the way home the tread peeled off the right rear tire and destroyed the quarter of the 57--talk about close calls.

Me and my buddy had my dragster out for a cruise one night and decided to see what this thing could do,so we were at a stoplight and when it turned green I hammered it to the floor! she popped a wheelee and we were up over a hundred in a split second, from there we kept climbing speed as we drive by a cop still doing a wheelee! when we were at 200 mph, I said to my buddy we should keep going cuz that cop is gonna catch us if we stop or slow down so around 250mph I hung a quick right onto a dirt road, we slowed er down and parked er behind a barn as we watched the cop zoom by. I said to my buddy whew that was close and realized that the blower switch was in the off position, dah, I prolly could have gone over 300. and incase anyone doubts it, I know a dragster only has 1 seat, I hooked up a side car off a motorcycle.

When I did my 155 lap at Las Vegas, it was bumping the rev limiter before the end of the straightaway. No way they will let them things go 200 plus.

Well, I've done a consistent lap at AAA Speedway (formerly California Speedway) of over 120 mph (calculated, not clocked) in this little monster:D

132 in my dad's 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk. One of 100 built for Bonneville with belly pans. The faster you went the lower it sat until it hit the suspension bumpers. Got caught by the CHP helicopter in Palmdale. Lost my license for 45 days. Judge was impressed with the car though.

186.38 in 1970 AA/GS Barracuda at Irwindale raceway.

135 and pulling away from patrol car rapidly according to the ticket. Norm Thatcher prepped 62 Dodge Polara with 361 wedge Hwy 101 between Agoura and Calabassas grade. Traffic school and lost the license (dad took it away). Sat next to Gene Winfield's son in traffic school. We went out at lunch break and he gave me a ride in his 240Z with LT1 small block. Made a pass down the 101, 130 the front end lifted and so did he. Then we went back to "Safe Driving School". What a hoot.

A few more unofficial runs but last year at Bonneville 158.949 in a 1963 Studebaker Avanti (The Hot Rod Magazines-Bill Burke car) with a stock 1957 Studebaker 289 engine. Even had a 1962 AFB carb. Just put a Novi supercharger (engine came with a McCullough supercharger) to update boost and zoomie headers. Got home and took it apart cause we knew we hurt it. Four scorched pistons. Hurt them on the fourth of six passes. Went the 158 on the last pass. I will always wonder how fast it could have gone if the engine had been taken apart and the rust removed from the cylinders before we started it. This year a "real" engine and shooting for 200+.

    132 in a Model T Ford.

From a standing start, and got to that speed in 1320 feet. (10.2 seconds later)

Model T Ford had a blown BBC to help it get up there. :):)

  24. Couldn't agree with you more. I sold my classic/colectable/race car transport company about 3 years ago, so got a number drives in the Shelby GT 500 2008 model. I have driven most every "desirable" car to be found and have no use for Ferrai's high reving noisy engine, but that supercharged GT 500 has such a nice rumble and for its mass, truly amazing off idle performance. For street driving I'd take the GT 500 any day of the week or of course the mid engined GT.
