Well, the fastest was the first time, and quite disappointing, but after that I got the hang of it and didn't go so quick...

203 in a Nascar car (it was a birthday present from my wife) and 132 in my Civic. I know that for a fact because my friend from college was a cop with a radar gun and we were in a very rural area with no side roads.

    His cruiser hit 126. HA.

As for my A- still working the kinks out so we will say 45... and that scared me.

100 + mph 3 times,,, the first time in an english MK2 zephyr/zodiac,, it was a quick car too... when it came time stop i figured the brakes had fallen out i reckon,, the owner didnt say too much to begin with or until i looked at him standing and pumping the pedal trying to pull the steering wheel off ...
the 2nd time with the same guy,, this time in a very rusty auss falcon ute,, he couldnt brake too hard for fear of it folding in half... and the 2 girl hitchhikers had vanished!!..
the 3rd time in a 64 compact with a hot 289 tunnel ram etc .. the funnest on account of the rear pulling left a tire width when 2nd was engaged at around 55-60 mph !! ..
ive growed up since those days.... hahahaha

145 in my 1972 240z it was still pulling but I was running out of road. 102 In my 1977 Rogers on 2 stages (squirt boat). 150 on my old Honda v65 and did'nt do that again because as I was letting off it developed a speed wobble that had my butt chewing the seat.

In a Lotus turbo Esprit on the freeway south of Santa Barbara one day back in '86: 155mph leaving a Corvette trying to stay up.
On El Mirage dry lake the same day in the same car: 185mph.
Senses get heightened at that speed--even though there wasn't anything out there to hit. Don't know how those F1 or even NASCAR guys do it.

Dad and I got the speedometer to "D" in a Pontiac Grand Prix McLaren/ASC Turbo coupe. He was driving... I was hanging on for dear life!! Made it from the CT/RI border to the infield at New Hampshire Motorspeedway in 1 hour 45 minutes. Normal trip is about 2 1/2 hours.

227 Knots in an off topic NAVY ride that was designed for max 180...it ended in a crash (we were actually headed for the crash prior to the 227 point for the record....the speed was a byproduct of the numerous mechanical/system failures we endured)

143 in an off topic gubment 4 wheeled ride (documented) which was darn right scary and I will never ever do again.

156 in my very first race car

135 in my Toyota (oh what a scary feeling)

and about 120ish in my 49....it's slow though.....

The best though...80ish backwards while getting shot at....yeah my ass was the size of a speck of sand...took me a week or more to find it again...

In the mid -80s I had a 1970 Thunderbird with the 11:1 429. On this night I also had a full tank of 110 straight octane avgas. Had to get my brother back to Fort Eustis so we were cooking. Crossing the James River bridge near Newport News Virginia (about 4 miles?) we got needle back around to zero. Measuring the other distances on the speedo we think between 140 & 150 mph. Didn't really believe it so when we got on I-64 we did it again, but split a seam on the radiator. I wasn't too swift in my younger years. :D

Oh yeah just remembered, went about 130 on my buddies modified Harley Shovel. didn't even wobble, but ran out of road.

Me driving:122.5 MPH in a OT 1990 Acura Integra on Route 10 in Southern California between Riverside, Ca. and Blythe, CA. Man what a ride!! Did not want to try to get another half mile an hour out of it. Did it once in 1993. Never again!!

As a passenger: I was driven at racing speeds around the "Bugatti Course" at Le Mans, France in 1982 by the Chief Instructer of the drivers school. It was an experience of a lifetime. And I would do it again.

  14. How about 137mph in 1320 ft? This is a full fendered roadster. About as aerodynamic as a turd in the wind. The windshield starts caving back in at the middle above 100. You have to block the radiator and you have to drill 3 - 3" in the backsides of the front fenders to keep the front end from lifting.

I buried the speedo in my '66 Deuce on the 3 mile straightstretch on US 67 between Gum Springs and Arkadelphia,Ar. It had a stock 350 with a powerglide and 3.08 gears. It had no takeoff, but it would pull forever. I have been down that straight every way you can imagine. I don't know how fast I was going, but it was way too fast for the pavement and suspension conditions.

  17. Wow;way cool, and an old thread. Glad to see a revival.

Lessee...On a bike;radar gunned at 132(and climbing) on my hopped up '99 Softail. Thought I saw God at that point(getting wobbly) and backed down. Friend had the gun for radar runs for sleds. What a freakin' rush!

Driving a car? 132(gee;gunned again, but by an LEO-ouch!) back in 1974 in my O/T '72 F-body. Close second was hitting the rev-limiter on my '85 turbo Buick at 124-that ride was also scary at that speed due to that car's aero quirks.

Fastest ever was in 1988 as a passenger in a Ferrari driven by a recently deceased gentleman at close to 160. Thank you, sir;that will never be forgotten, and RIP.

    Next...

  18. Let's see, on 2 wheels about 125 on an FJR Yamaha. That's as big as my balls were that day, a legit 150 mph bike.
9.00 at 150 mph in my super comp altered. That was fun.....

Had an old timer who told me "If ya can't prove it ya did'nt do it". 129.817 is the fastest I can prove. Its on the board somewhere.

According to the internet (and the internet never lies) my 79 Lincoln Continental with a 400 C6 tops out at 179 KPH... according to the RCMP my car was doing about 265 KPH or about 165 MPH, but that was back when I was yougn and stupid, now that I am older and stupid I don't drive that fast at all, I did it, I survived, why tempt fate and take someone out with me I figure.

I had my Fully restored 31 Pontiac sport sedan up to 75MPH, that blew me away that it could even do it, I think it might have had more but I chickened out.. LOL

The wide open spaces and occasional total lack of traffic make it hard not to speed here, that's why I love cruise control!

One of the best stories my grandpa ever told me was about one friday night him, my grandma and another couple were headed to the family cottage, sometime around the late forties. They were in i think a '38 olds runnin up the two-lane blackrtop (M65 between standish and whitimore for you MI people) he claimed that they were runnin every bit of 90+ in and out of traffic. He said he kept watchin the mirror and could make out one going in and out behind them as well. When the cop finally caught him he asked grandpa if he know how fast he was going. gramps response was "Nope, but thats about all she will do".
It was something like a $13 speeding ticket.

    125+ In a late '80's Mustang GT.
    110 to 115 in a '72 MAVERICK 2 dr.
    100+ In an '86 Ranger, '92 F250 and a '97 suburban.
The Sub is the daily driver. We drive down to Spring Island, S.C. each summer w/ the kids. You have to ease it up there, between 65 and 75 she's a little shaky(remembered she's built like a brick), after that it's smooth.

Fastest was 150 in my '03 Mach1 - programmed to shut down at 151.

First time I was young and dumb I wrapped the speedo back around to 45 in a '87 shortbed half ton chevy with 350 FI/auto and 2.73 gears, the thing just floated, barely touch the wheel to change lanes around a couple of cars. I estimate that was 140+.

Last time was 120 on a Honda 919, the wife's old bike. Stood it up at 65 with both of us on it in a parking lot one day. Was trying to explain to her how she really needed to stay out of the upper RPM's so I decided to demonstrate. I'm a cruiser guy not a sportbike guy, needless to say we don't have it anymore.

Older, wiser and slower now. Still like 0-70 asap, but I try to stay within the law. Ditched too many of Texas finest in my youth and don't want to push my luck anymore.
