The 53 ford I'm picking up this week has a lot of play in the steering wheel. Is there an adjustment on the steering box or is it worn out? Thanks, Joel

There is adjustment. There is a nut with a slot in it with a star washer under it, this is your adjustement. If your sector shaft gears or worm gear on the cloumn shaft are worn, then it's a goner.

Also, check out Vern Tardel's steering booklet if you want to learn more about re-building and the fine tuning of these F1 boxes.

    good luck

I looked on Tardel's web site and couldn't find the book. Any more info? Also how will I know if the column is too worn?
