I've been dismembering the bed of my '57 Effie, have all new bed bolts to replace the oldies later one. Once I got the fenders off, tonight, I noticed the fender bolts still in the bed's sides look like they're welded in. I would've thought you could take 'em out, expecially since I bought a new set from Mar K products. Is it me, or were they factory-welded in? Thanks for any help.
hey are definately welded in theres usually two small spot welds right under the bolt head. to get them out you will have to carefully grind the head off. you could torch them off, but that would be hard to do without destroying the bedside
i forgot to mention,,, the bolts are in a square hole, if you havent figured that out yet... just so you know
You can hit the spot welds with a cutting wheel and tap them with a hammer and they should pop right out. As stated be careful not to mess up the bed sides if you plan on reusing them. And as pointed out thay are carriage bolts so don't freak out that the holes are square.
