Ever Seen a Hot Rod Ice Cream Truck?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kerry67, Feb 3, 2009.

  1. I did a couple for a guy in the Dearborn area but can only find the pic of the second one.I'll see if I can dig out the other one in my photo albums. The first one was a 55-56 Chevy pickup with a way too serious small block that grenaded a flywheel on his way home one day.

At the Primernationals Flower had a cooler with dairy products (milk) in the ice box............we were going to stock it with beer but figured that they might not not appreciate it.

Yeah, I saw that too. The murals were phenomenal. There was also the wild open top 40's chevy ice cream truck upstairs with the hand painted mural all over it built for Ry Cooder to commemorate the Chavez Ravine evictions in LA...that paint was nuts.....

I saw that guy in Worcester a few years ago, there was another guy there took an old mail truck, painted flat black, diamond plate floors and hydraulics.

The big thing is what you'll be selling, Dippin Dots and their copy cats are what the kids are nuts over now. My sister sells them out of a fancy trailer at festivals, fairs, ball tournaments and other sporting events, she cleans up, kids don't care what the stuff costs, apparently it's the Hannah Montanna of Ice Cream.

Dang HJmaniac! You beat me to it. Some of these pictures were taken in St. Maries Idaho in 2006. I remember that guy on the cell phone when I walked by. Kept thinking if he would get off the phone I would buy an ice cream from him.

Well whadda ya know... Looks like I might have some competition. I'm building a '59 Divco ice cream truck at the present time. I currently have 3 Divco trucks. I'm at the end stage of a kitchen renovation job and when I'm done I can go back on the Divco project. Because of health dept regulations its difficult to sell anything but prepackaged products so I'm going to stick to ice cream novelties, soda, water, cookies, etc. I wont sell on the street, this will be an event only consession truck. You can see my Divco project journal at this link:

The old original Good humor trucks from the 50s and 60s are outragously expensive even for rusted out junk. There is a guy back east selling his fleet of 60s era Fords but they are very high priced. With enough fabrication skills any old truck can be modified and a custom box built in place of the bed.

Had one recently at the "George Barris" custom car show here on Long Island towards the middle of last year (2008)!!

It was an "outstanding" show overall, but the Ice-Cream truck was a real big hit here!!

    Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

The hot rod ice cream truck is somethingthat I thought about a long time afo. There is still a good humor ice cream mann in our neighborhood. He has the old-one seater. Lightweight, should fly with a big block
