I just got an Olds rocket engine. Never had one before and know very little about them. I've been trying to find out exactly what it is and evidently not looking in the right places. I've searched and found several threads but not sure of what I'm coming up with. Could someone point me in the right direction. Like what numbers are the ones I need and where are they located to get what I'm looking for. The engine is disassembled so I have access to all the numbers, just wondering which ones tell the most and where to find what they mean. The engine has a broken pistion skirt on number 3 cylinder. So I will be needing to find a piston as soon as I figure out what I have for sure and of course everything else to refreshen it up, cam, lifters, springs etc. I can post the numbers later if someone can tell me which ones, if I still can't figure it out. Previous owner thinks its a 56 324 but really not sure. Also, it has red valve covers. TIA.
I you post some of the numbers you will get your answers maybe post a pic or two of it. The 56 engines were different in the cam bearings so the 49-55 cams will not work in the 56 engines.
No problem there are plenty of olds rocket fans on here should be easy to find out what engine you have. Also GOATROPER on here deals with them for a living he will have all the parts you need.
Here's the numbers, any help is greatly appreciated. Above center exhaust port on heads........10 On heads under red valve covers.............567322 with a 5 above it on the lt bank and a 3 above it on the rt bank. On front of the block under timing cover...56k10 On back of block on bell housing..............567405 and cfd18 On lt exhaust manifold...........................GM567569LH On rt exhaust manifold...........................GM569300RH
