I'm trying to build my own version of a bead roller with some additional depth. Right now I have a few motors that I can choose from to power it. As I have mentioned before, I'm an electrically challenged individual........no make that "complete idiot". Anyway, I'm going to post some pictures of what I have and hope that some one can look at the pretty colored wires and tell me what I need to hook them to. I also have another motor with a speed control that came with it that has pretty wires on it too. I couldn't find any wiring diagram on the motor or controller. So, do I need to toss them and look for another suitable candidate or can someone enlighten me ? DSCN2185.JPG

No, I didn't buy it from Japan.......got them off Ebay a while back for some future project. If you can help, Thanks in advance.;) The other choice is an Oriental Motor with a partially hooked up speed control....

DSCN2205.JPG Addition to first post. The edit feature kept putting these pictures above the first pictures which didn't correspond to the text. So here is the second choice. The first motor already has the correct sprocket on it, so I'd like to adapt it if I can. This one has the speed control with it but I don't know if it works or how to hook it up.

All I can find on Franklin Electric motors is that most are pump motors. Can't find that model number at all. 1/6 hp sounds pretty whimpy for running a bead roller unless you have some serous gear reduction.
If I had a motor that already had the control with it I'd think that is what I'd want to use.

Sounds like you did the same thing on the photos that I have done too many times, go large on the first photo before deciding that you wanted to load more and then have the rest placed on the post where you don't want them. Did that last night and had to delete all the photos and start over..

  4. Well, here's the controller diagram... https://catalog.orientalmotor.com/i...y-products-speed-controllers-legacy/usp560-1u

The Franklin motor has nothing to do with the other two parts. The large cable coming out of the back of the controller is supposed to have a plug on it's end that matches the plug on the 'oriental' motor. If it doesn't, I have to assume you just match wire colors. There's no info on this other than 'it plugs in'. Connect the AC power on the controller as shown; on the 'L' terminal and ONE of the 'N' terminals for whichever way you want it to rotate.

If you want a foot switch, that needs to be installed in the power cord. If you want to be able to reverse rotation without changing connections you'll need a outboard reversing switch with interlock, also installed between the power cord and the controller.

This is only a 1/12th HP motor, it may or may not have enough beans for the job. And make sure the controller and motor are grounded together.

  5. OK, you got the Franklin motor lead labeled...

Those wire colors mean nothing. Where you need to look is in the junction box on the motor. With any luck there'll be a wiring diagram inside the box, or the motor leads will be identified.
