Electric fuel pump on a 1960 235?

I picked up a replacement fuel pump for my 235, and when bolted in there is a 1/4" gap at the bottom. I'm not sure if I have the wrong pump or if I am missing a spacer that makes up for the gap since it sits pretty close to the block. Would it be possible to just block off the stock mechanical pump opening and run an electric fuel pump? Thanks.

  2. There's no spacer, either it's installed wrong or you have the wrong pump. Why not just get the right one?

I guess my second option is the electric pump, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a spacer I was missing. Thanks

bumping the starter will help rotate the cam lobe out of the way so you are not fighting the pump lever while installing it.
Make sure you have the right pump and that you aren't trying to install it upside down...

That's right. 235 fuel pumps look "upside down" when installed correctly. If you go with an electric pump, you'll also need a pressure regulator to keep the Rochester B from flooding over.
