Bob was the last car to run Sat. Lots of entrys. Shut down at 2:30 after last first round. I left after that run. He called here after noon today, so I don't think he got an early run. Course was good and many records.

Ran 183.246 in October, but somehow life got in the way and we didn't attend November. Now I've got 6 months to fiddle, and convince myself to run next year.

The restored Calorie roadster is drop dead gorgeous! I'm sure Jack would be smiling from ear to ear if he was still with us!

paintslinger805, thanks for the best time I've had at any meet. Wish we could have finished out the weekend together. Really enjoyed Johny Eyeball, Mike, Paul, and the young fellow with way too much hair. LOL. Lots of knowledge in that little group. Joyce and I are off to the local Vet to check out some arse transplants for the trip home.

Turbo Rick. Fastest gas speed ever on the lake. We set the F/BGS and F/FS records with my 3 liter Nissian motor in this car in 1999-2000 23435044_10215204854224530_6698113922082842942_n.jpg Rick turbo..jpg

I told the Flashpoint crew that I had an A license and would drive it for them and get it out of the rookie line. They didn't go for it -- probably just as well. He seemed to easily pick up the knack of dirt racing. I, too, believe it's top time of the year.

I am not sure Bob understands how the rookie line deal is supposed to work. I guess he can skip the license pass runs. Bob and Don Jackson have really put a lot of thought and work into their car. Along with a bunch of crew members.

They told him to run around 200 on his first pass. He went 183. On Sunday they said not to do anything stupid, Keep it around 230. Which he did to about the mile. But it felt good and he wanted more info on the data logger. So he punched it.

  20. Thanks for the reporting, Rich. Lights the fire and makes me want to go back there.

And thanks for all the other great shots. Really captures the essence of El Mirage.

In the end the SCTA board decided that Bob's 283 mph run would not count. To fast out of the rookie line. Even as everyone complemented him on his shut down/turn out. Several slower cars ran out the back end. Much to the displeasure of the BLM lady. So, Ricks amazing 273 is the new fastest speed of the meet. No doubt that is a very good speed. New record and fastest gas burning speed ever. Bob was more that 20 mph under his record, so he didn't lose anything there. And he is not in the points race. So all he really lost is a trophy. And everyone knows who really had the fastest car in '17.

Thanks for the update Rich, I was curious how that was gonna play out being in the rookie line. No doubt he will only improve on that next year. I would really like to see someone go 300mph on El Mirage and be able to stop too.

The car isn't the restored calori roadster. It is an awesome tribute build.Billy crewl and Jack became great friends.Jack did see this car before his passing.its been a 15 year project that was on the road previously. Billy's motor blew years ago he just recently rebuilt the whole car.i am lucky that it's only 2 miles from my house

If you haven't picked up the new Hop Up (13-4) I advise you too. There are so many photos from our day out there and besides that it's a kickass mag too
