Howdy all Tim here. I have a question about my intake and carb setup. I am running a 59 AB with and Edmunds offset intake. I am using the Tardel Carb stacks and two Strom 97's. I have the two carbs connected on the drivers side with the linkage you can get from Hot Rod Custom Supply. The pedal is connected to the front carb on the passenger side in standard fashion.

Now the trouble…The linkage works great..and there is no binding. BUT. While the front carb goes from full close to full open…the rear carb will go from full close to about 3/4 open. They are both 97's and the carb arms I bought from Hot Rod Custom Supply are the same length. I am thoughly confused at this. Has anyone come across this? If so..what did you do? It seems that the rear carb may sit slightly lower than the front...but I have to look at it again to be sure.
Any help on this would be great!
    Thanks
    Tim

Do you have both carburetors adjusted at idle the same? This could be the cause if you don't. Just think for a minute..if both are identically adjusted with both connections at the same length, both have to move exactly the same distance.

Well the idle speed adjustments are set so both carbs are completely closed. Thats why it is so wierd. Ok...well maybe I should ask this question...With the Edmund intake that I am using...does the front carb feed the front 4 cylinders exclusively and the back carb the back cylinders exclusively? OR do they all go into a common area? If they go to a common area...then should I care that the back carb doesn't open all the way?

No, the front and rear of an Edmunds intake are not isolated from each other, so both ends draw from both carbs, but they should still open in unison.

I agree that they should open in unison...however..if they didn't it wouldn't be the end of the world..I might be able to use the car as is until I found longer carb arm for the driver's side of the front carb...right? I mean it would be like a lower CFM single carb. No?

Tim - are you using the original balls ends on the throttle shafts at all? Something I discovered on one of mine was it was bent slightly - ended up with same symptoms as you. Carefully bent it back into alignment with the other carb & all was well...

Well I thought of this a bit...The carb ball end that I am using is the one from the stock passenger side front carb. The carbs are connected on the drivers side of the carb with two elbows. Since the carbs are only hooked together on the drivers side...then I don't know that a bent arm on the drivers side front carb would matter..Hmm I have to think about this more.

    Nope, you're right - shouldn't matter then.

Are the throttle arms the bolt-on style for longer throttle shafts? If so, are they at the same angle - ie, are they parallel with each other? Even then, I can't imagine a significant (if any) difference....

Got pics of your setup from both sides??
