I've got two sets of Edelbrock '49-'53 Flathead heads with different #'s stamped in the top between the temp. sensor outlets. One is 7.5 and the other is 8.5. Someone told me years ago what the difference between them was but I long forgot. Think it has something to do with the compression ratio but not sure. Can someone enlighten me? I would like to use a set on my '51 but am not sure if one # is better than the other. These are going on a stock motor if it matters. Thanks in advance.

Those numbers ARE the compression ratios for stock displacement. You have mismatched heads.

I think either set would work good on a stock motor. I would go with the 8.5 myself looking for a bit more hp.

I screwed up-read the post too fast. I thought you said you had "two heads"-one of each number, not "two sets". Sorry. I agree though that the 8.5s would be the better choice-you'd notice the difference.
