hello i was at winter dragracing swap meet in sweden ad found a t-10 ironcase fully disambled and priced 450dollar these parts or complete gearboxes should be wery odd as gm did not sell that many 4-speed cars in late 50 early 60can any tell me about this gear box i have no photos but a phone nr to seller so i need some info before i contact him ken sweden
Actually there were thousands made. All 57-62 Corvettes used the t-10. There were some iron cases with aluminum tail housings. If I remember correctly,1962 was the first year for all aluminum cases. Ford used iron case t-10's also in some models.
Check out my 59 Fairlane t10 4spd rebuild in my albums. Its for a early 60's ford full size car. All iron case and tailshaft housing.... so be careful if you need one for a chevy. T10's were common in many makes and models. Decipher your casting codes....
T10's suffered from "soft" tail shafts,at least on the GM ones. Look closly at the tail shaft and make sure it's not twisted.
i bought a new t10 around1974 iron case with 264 first gear worked great for years behihd a 427 and i still have it
Ken;one quick way to tell if it is a Ford would be if it has 8 bellhousing mounting holes, the four inner holes are are for 62-64,the outer four are 65.Ford also used a 10 spline input shaft.I hope this helps,ROY.
That trans would be a 1st series Super t-10. We used one in our Bonneville car for years until we went with the 5 speed, I still have it. They are a real tough trans, ductile iron case with high nickle gears. I have all the factory specs for these as they were available in several gear ratios.
Ford also used aluminum T10s in the factory lightweight 63 1/2 427 Galaxies, I had one in my 427 powered 57 Ford. I rung the input shaft off in it going into second gear in a race.
