June 23 brings out the EPA stand that this stuff may cause damage in engines older than 2001.

4 years ago in Oklahoma City , stations were selling E 10 with as much as 18%
Ethanol. Consumer complaints led to inspections and the problems ceased. Many stations have 100% gas signs up now and it is 3 to 5 cents a gallon more.

Where is that 60-70 cents a gallon cheaper gas that was sold to Congress way back when? Oh thats right, they saw fit to let the retailers set the price difference. If they chose not to pass savings on to the consumer, so be it.

So now they admit this stuff ruins engines before 2001.
Also, did you know when you buy a new car, they determine the useful life of an engine is 120,000 miles?

  2. It's kind of like putting sawdust in our cornflakes. I wish I could get 100% gas where I live.

  3. There needs to be an app for that! ;)

Cars running antique plate should be exempted from the road tax and there fore able to run farm fuel etc.

  4. This car runs on E85.

Ethanol is a perfectly decent fuel, great detonation resistance, great for turbos, but it kills mileage and it eats polymers not formulated specifically for alcohol-resistance. Many automakers have announced that running E15 or greater in pre-2001 cars will void the warranty (for those still with some kind of warranty on them) and I wouldn't do it in any production vehicle not built in the last 3-5 years, or in the case of aftermarket anything not known to be built with the right fuel system bits from tank to cylinder head.

And, of course, you can debate for a long time whether ethanol production is really a net energy consumer.

Right, well its set up for it and its takes advantage of the 107 octane or whatever E85 is. Plus that doesnt look hamb friendly...

What does that have to do with any part of this thread, let alone the HAMB?
I could post lots of pics of stuff that runs on E85 that has nothing to do with OLD engines in old cars

You're saying that the risk of damage has been overstated?

Maybe not damage the engine but it will melt all the rubber and plastic in your fuel system....

Then engine was made to run on E85(proper plastics/rubbers, looks like EFI so needs bigger injectors than if it was run on 100% gas). And forced induction application loves higher octane cause you can push more boost without chance of predetonatoin.

If you're building a rod these days you better be using modern seals, gaskets, hoses, etc. because there's already enough crap in the gas to eat 'traditional' materials; supposed "gasoline" was mostly already 10% ethanol (and in the recent past, MTBE out here) even before the E15 crap came along.

We've had 10-15% here for the last 20 years with no real problems...

They already do that, what do you think cellulose is? All in the name of higher fiber and cheaper cost.

    yep

    way overrated...

If you haven't changed the rubber stuff since it got alcohol friendly in your fuel system and you're running a HAMB friendly car you may want to step away from the cars now...

This runs on e10-e15 very happily...
