From the very first page of this thread back in 2009. The Algon injectors were very common on Nor-Cal cars as Al Gonsalves was from the area while Hilborn and Enderle were down south in LA.

Joe Said's "Shocker" with 392 hemi power. The photo is most likely from Tucson where he raced a lot after moving from Detroit to Phoenix in 1970. The car was originally built by Bob Tamplin and trophied at the Detroit Autorama under both owners.

I am guessing that the kid in the shot is probably Troy, Gary Cagle's son. The car itself was recreated a few years back by Joel Gruzen.

These guys put on a show wherever they ran, Sadd Brothers...I think that George Bentley was also involved...later became the Sadd Brothers & Teague Bonneville roadster.... this is on the return road at Pomona.

Hey Roo,
Here is an early film that I took back in 58-59 of Jess Van Deventer at Lions Dragstrip. It was one of the coolest looking roadsters there, during that time. We saw a lot of that roadster, every time we went to Lions to race, watch, or take movies, etc.

Back in October of 2017, Jess Van Deventer was part of the group of inductees honored at the Barona Nitro Revival festivities put on by Steve Gibbs and Company. http://nitrorevival.com/
It was for the Greater San Diego Racer’s Walk of Fame 2017 Inaugural Inductees whose list is long and famous. (The Bean Bandits, Nelson and Martin Dragmaster, Cyr and Hopper, Cook and Bedwell, and Bruce Crower to name a few.)

It was an exciting time filming these early drag racers and their cars back in 1958-60. They were some of the top racers to set the tone for the future of drag racing and hot rodding in So Cal.
