Check out that dragster trailer being towed by a SWB van in the background. Boy, it didn't take much to keep us happy back then.

Hatfiled Brothers A/F Modified Roadster: 1964

Streamlining caught up with Modifieds, too. The Hatfiled brothers were building this 180-inch wheelbase Modified Roadster while helping on Manuel Gonzales’ “Californian” small-block dragster. Inspired by Holly Hedrich’s Speed Sport roadster, it was finished in November 1964. Unfortunately, it crashed in early 1965 at Lions, making images of it kind of rare. According to Doyle Hatfiled, the brothers decided not to rebuild.

I've never seen that car. Imagine what it would have done for the rear engine rail movement had it been rebuilt and run successfully.

Johnson built this Modified in his Wisconsin garage, starting with a Lakewood chassis, opting for the then-new 273ci Dodge for power. He wanted mechanical injection, but with none available for the small block Mopar, he made his own. The handmade body is a combination of fiberglass and aluminum, and features wheel fairings covering the slicks and a canopy built into the tonneau cover. The “Silver Bullet” held the Drag News record for C/Modified at 142 mph, but Johnson would occasionally add nitro, upping the speeds to 162 mph.

This car later became Ron Pellegrini's first funny car. After purchasing the altered Ron mounted a shortened Mustang coupe body, his first in a long line of flopper bodies. It looks as if most of the altered made the transition to funny car but the front wheels were downsized to 15"

That Sarnia Speed Center car was built about a mile down the road from where I'm standing right now.
They also ran a Boss 302 powered 57 Ford, and a 427 Tunnel Port powered 57 Ford that the owner still has tucked away today.

Come to think of it....I think I looked at that Bantam body in his garage a few years back, too.Somebody had built a pretty nice hand-formed aluminum cowl extension for it to lengthen that short body a little.
Not positive, but there's a strong possibility it's the same car?
