The pictures were taken at the U.S.30 reunion show at a location near the old abandoned track.

3. PLEEZ don't listen to those people. There isn't a photo on this thread that I have not enjoyed looking at, moving, standing still, duplicates.
I just wish I had more to contribute... Keep them coming!! Don't listen to the Whiner (or Wino as the case may be).

I think the French carmaker Simca also used a similar body to the original Topolino.

I stand corrected. Vinyl and velour were very popular back then. :):)

Don and Pat Garlits had brought their Chrysler powered dragster. This is Pat in their push car, in front of the Arfons team of three, or maybe 4, cars. The Garlits car had a full width rear end, two-speed transmission, 8 carbs on fuel.

He was running in the 135 range. Cook and Bedwell set his motor up and got him up to 155 mph and he beat them in eliminations. He went home, narrowed the rear end, switched to direct drive like Cook and Bedwell, dropped the motor down in front, lowered the driving position, added a nose piece and in November ran 176 mph and Drag Racing has never been the same.

Wow Docc! Great pics. That is one clean Allison powered dragster. I saw "Big Al" run, seeing this would have been a real treat. Thanks for sharing these shots.

Docc - True story about Garlits? You know, what you said about Cook and Bedwell? I know the latter were bad-ass hard to beat, but were they responsible for the, at least the initial, success of Big?

I posted these a long while back, but I just got a bunch of slides professionaly redone. These are good enough to repost at a better quality I figure.

I the picture below, check out the guy standing by the track next to the speaker pole, while the car is pointing his direction. This is during the pass not the burnout.
