A truly gorgeous shot, especially considering that it appears to have been taken by a fan walking in the pits. He or she wasn't shooting with an Instamatic that day.

I just couldn't resist doing a bit of editing to try removing the blue cast on the original shot. Looked like it was taken on Ektachome slide film. Not that there's anything wrong with that. . . !



Don't remember ever seeing this car before. Can anybody put a driver's or owner's name with this shot? At first I thought this might have been taken at IRP, but the more I look at the bleachers in the background the less convinced I am about that.

 

I have no ID on the dragster, the only reason why it's in my files is because of Billy Lynch's trailer in the background.

Jerry Dawson, out of St. Louis, MO later ran a 392 powered fuel altered, well at least until the car suffered a massive engine explosion.

Well I tried a quick image search on both Bing and Google and got bupkis. Gonna have to brush up on my web search techniques. The name Jerry Decent Dawson still doesn't register with me, and that seems to be pretty memorable name. Thanks for adding the info.

 

You might try looking up Dawsons demon that’s what the car is called I’ve seen it run a few times a long time ago it was a real handful but awesome to watch

I believe it is. It was reported to be in the estate of the late Robbie Robison. Robbie collected all things related to Blair's speed shop.

 

This is one of my all time favorite cars, piloted by Rex Stevens. I took the pictures of the demon when it had the pink scallops at Great Lakes Dragaway back around 1990.

 

I remember watching that car run at MAR many times.

 

Did Joe Ortega drive that car ?
