"Fuel Altered name Jewel T Arlington 1968 Big Block Chev" Them yonder hills in the background are always a pretty good way to I.D. Arlington.

"Les Lennington B/SR 1968 ran injected small block chev" Wonder what the logic [if any]was behind the tiny front wheels?

You wont see Brian's cars leaving the line like this. I'm sure he has his car sorted out.

Those hand scribbled names on the flyers don't look like much until you REALLY look at those names.
    Some history there!

The Backup Pickup has been restored.
It hits a lot of the car show circuit, at least in SoCal. It was at the Grand National Roadster Show this year.
One of the last things, car wise that we got to do here in SoCal.

  15. The Jewell " T " was bought by Ron Zaverella after the Nationals. However, it was stolen, before it got to Connecticut. Supposedly it was dis-assembled. The whereabouts were suspected, but couldn't be proven, so nothing could legally be done.

Got these out of a friend's collection, two fine examples of early Modified Roadsters. Tony Waters @ Bakersfield 1958. Norton & Marion @ Scappoose, Or. 1955, would later be Dick Kalivoda's with Desoto power. Drag Racing 8.jpg Drag Racing 4.jpg

    Hey M,

Nice find of the old photo of that very cool, but intimidating modified roadster. Tony Waters had one fast modified roadster. (and...it was purple.) His crew was always dressed the best of any of the race car crews. We saw them at the Riverside Raceway, East vs West meet in December, 1959. We had already read of his exploits at the first 1959 Smokers March Meet against Art Chrisman.

So, this 1959 Riverside Raceway meet was our chance to see it in person, despite being 100+ miles away, round trip from Long Beach.

At the 1960 Bakersfield Smokers March Meet #2 we could not wait for the long road trip to see the top racers in action.
upload_2020-7-29_6-20-32.png a match made in heaven for all drag racing followers…
Two of our favorite modified roadsters racing against each other... woo hoo...

Tony Waters total Riverside 1959 and Bakersfield 1960

Jnaki, I need to dig out a video that a friend shot at B-Field in '63 and send it to you. You would be able to identify and dissect it into snippets, for viewing. Nobody does it better !

    Hey Marty,

I would be glad to dive into an editing project. It has taken me a long time to get most of the identification from those films that I did not list way back in 1959-60 for those drag racers. I guess I thought I could remember all of them. Ha! But, through some internet research and interviews, there are only a few blank spots in my own film ID process.

Sending any film in flash drives has it +/- facts, mostly minus. Some of the padding and metal flash drives survive the rough treatment that all mail goes through. I have had several crushed and others fly through, so there is a better way. I will PM you if you want to proceed with the exchange project.

Thanks for the comments and old photos always brings back those good old days of seeing those drag racers at various dragstrips. We were fortunate to be so near to Lions Dragstrip in So Cal. and to be able to work on hot rods and drag racing cars back then.

    Thanks,
    Jnaki
