  6. Those engines were nearly worthless when that car was built. Ford had discontinued their use, and they were bought at giveaway prices. Then they started using them in champ dirt cars, and they were like gold again. The car was stripped, the engines and the spares were sold for quite a tidy profit.

"DON'T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME..."

    Hey Dave,
Thanks for reminding those that put in so called,"modern" drag racing photos in this rules driven thread. (like all HAMB threads) Here is one of our favorites from 1959 that I filmed at Riverside Raceway during the eliminations. Sorry, the race was really good, but I ran out of film on this race. By the time I put in more film in the movie camera, the racers were long gone. I was getting fast in the film exchange, but they were gone and the other top FED elimination races were coming up fast.

The famous 22 Jr of Tony Nancy vs. a dark purple roadster from Reath Automotive:
Any thoughts on the purple roadster from Reath Auto? Who, what, owner, driver, etc?

    Thanks,

It actually dates back to the very first page of this thread but that was back in 2007 so you are forgiven;). Of course it has been posted a number of times since and pops up on a regular basis here.

The last Hawaiian dragster (a Don Long car). Spent a bit of time with Roland and Larry Reyes (who drove the first Hawaiian funny car) at Gateway this past weekend.

    It's a replica.

  20. There is a replica out there, but the Great Lakes pic isn't that car. It's the original.
    What are you saying here?
As for repeats, I post my drag pics in
"Days Gone Bye" instead of here, there are too many repeats for my tastes!
I believe this is Crossley, Williams and Swan in 1966 at Bako!

This is the replica that was created from another Long car a couple of serial numbers later than the original Hawaiian. Floyd in the seat at Bowling Green last year.

Winternationals pits...Merry Men car club banger at bottom, Frank Sanders SS at right, Leland Kolb's gas Lincoln dragster in front of the stake truck, I think the Stafford & Shores street roadster next to the white Lark, Owen McCormack's DeWin Chevy coupe behind the El Camino...and my 30 Olds-powered roadster was somewhere in the parking lot behind, along with lots of other hot rods....

    Was this the first one?

I remember we wanted to run, but they wanted $25 to enter. We were running free at Fontana as a C/Roadster, but woulda had to run A under NHRA rules. $25 exceeded Drag Roadster .jpg our weekly budget.

Water injection?? Before you asked, I had not noticed them.....I thought water intake at first, but there is more than one overflow tube from each inlet, so maybe water injection? Anyone else?

A little history on the Tommyd photo of Pfeiffer Anglia. It started out with Pete Stager of the "Baby Cakes" Willys starting it then Vietnam interfered and Coney Island Ralf bought it after he rolled his Anglia. Then it was sold to Pfeiffer Automotive. The Jack Merkel slash was still on the car but the name shoe polished over, Jack at that time worked for S&K which is visible on the slash. The picture is at NY national speedway around 68 and I think it may be one of my original pictures.
