Help needed identifying the owner and any information about the Number 7 Willys Coupe. Also can anyone make out what class it was running ?

It's at the top of the right page in this picture taken in May of 1956 at San Gabriel Dragstrip.

    Thanks,

That looks like my Christmas tree! The one from the Pel State truck! Does anyone have any more pics from there?

I checked the Six Flags Dragway pic pages but mostly the short tree without the center post..

    Thanks!

    Dave

Here's coming at you...Kenny Lindley with Don Hampton driving... Lions 1959-60 FED staging lane

    Hello,
I have thank all of the helpful people here on the HAMB. My film library is overjoyed with new names and owners to all of the missing titles of the various race cars. One day, I will have a complete file with all of the names for all of the years that I took movies. Some films need editing that I am slowly doing again, to make sure the race cars and years are correct.
Here is something for all of you:

New Year’s Day always brings back memories of what happened in the past year. But, for me, this year brought back writing about Lions Dragstrip memories, making new friends, and continuing doing more things with our granddaughter. (11 years and running) All of these things were pushed to the forefront when I digitized my 16mm color films. (Family movies from the past, drag racing, vacations, reconnecting with old friends, togetherness in college, new friends, etc.)

But, the idea that 57 year old films could bring up those good memories again was a huge bonus.

Here is one of the things that started it all: gone but not forgotten: Lions Dragstrip…Pit passes got you places where no one else could go at the dragstrip. Getting this shot of one of our favorites (Kenny Lindley’s FED with Don Hampton driving) at Lions in 1959 was an interesting event. With a fixed lens movie camera, you had to get up close to get those shots. Lions had the pits, the staging area lanes for the classes, and a side road for firing up FED racers going to the starting line. Those FEDs that did not need the long push start up the strip and back to the starting line.

    Memories, what a concept...

Actually, this pre-staging push start was so cool as it was parading in front of all of the spectators for a preview of what is coming next.

Even the little guys get some "Showtime" in front of the spectators: In 1958, the pit side stands were not around...They built it in 59-60. It looks deserted.

Thanks 296 ARDUN for your help. The power of the Hamb never ceses to amaze me. That is the Earliest Willys Gas Class car that I have ever seen.

Here are a couple of Drag Cars in Motion to keep things on topic.

John Dondero (I wonder if this was Ken Dondero that raced the Capital Speed Shop Willys and went on to drive the Anglia for the Panella Brothers?)

Before and after...Armstrong and Williams at Pomona, April 1956, running Hal Williams Ardun...then at Colton as the Nesbitt's Orange Special, this time Richter and Armstrong, with an injected Chrysler. Ultimately this car participated in a mainland-to-Hawaii drag meet in '57 with Cook & Bedwell and the Glass Slipper, and was sold there...who knows, could still be there?

  26. Kenny Lindley's "Miss Fire" as I photographed it at Pomona, June 1959. He had just gotten beat for T/E by Ted Cyr.
