Eddie Hill Wichita Falls, Texas. The Double Dragon, Pontiac powered. Engines are stressed members.

  2. Front wheels are halibrand 12" midget wheels. I think I remember reading where a strip in Texas told Eddie not bring the car back because it tore chunks out of the asphalt. What a great piece of engineering.

I used to go to Eddie's shop as a kid. He and his wife were very nice to me and let me look at their dragsters. Eddie painted his cars metallic purple. This thread sure brings back memories.

DAMN, I just saw an 8 x 10 photo of the sheepherder (among others) at an Antique store in Cayucas CA (near Morro Bay). It was in the store with a down stairs, maybe a local can help you out.

A good friend of mine let me scan these photos from his childhood scrap book. He was involved with all kinds of racing and car shows in the Bay area and knew the likes of McLennan, Gotelli, Tommy the Greek and more. The quality is not that good and some are not in motion but all are relavent to the history of our sport and I thought the Jay Cheatham photo was a real find. That's Don Prudhomme in Tommy Ivo's former Buick-powered car. Ivo sold that car to Prudhomme who put a Dave Zeuschel Chrysler in it.

I see the newspaper article on Rod Stuckey above. Does anyone have anything on him? He was a AA/F chassis builder/driver operating out of Kansas City. He ran hard on the West Coast in the '60's. He built the chassis that eventually became the Greer Black and Prudhomme car.

He recovered after being badly burned in a fiery crash in the days before fire suits. I was at MoKan one Sunday and they shut down racing so Rod could land his plane on the strip. He died in a motorcycle crash I believe, probably late 60's. A nearly forgotten legend really.

It seems like Keith Black used to push the Greer Black Prudhomme car with a '59 Ranchero in the 60's, maybe just like that one.

I like all that chrome on the dragster. Yep, that period of time was far too short and went by far too fast!

This is all I could find on Rod Stuckey on the web

Rod's '64 car with Rod in the middle and looks like The Greek on the right.

Same era, Tom Hoover's Stuckey-framed car. Rod's signature was the windup key pushbar.

You need to call the people at Autoweek who printed this photo with the caption that I copied. It is on the newstands right now. I really have way to much to do to just sit around and make this stuff up. I do, though, take it that a magazine has done their homework...in this case I guess Autoweek and the photographer who took this photo are wrong and you are right.

He went rear engine after the 1970 explosion and this photo says 1964 on the cowl. Since he built at least a car a year, this had to be 5 or 6 cars previous to the rear engine car. So much for media accuracy.
