Coonrod was cackling one of his dragsters (maybe this one) a few years ago at Medford, hung a valve, and BLEWWW! the blower off the car (BIGG BOOOMER). Pieces of the case flew everywhere, one almost got Steve, who was over by the trailer. Looking at it after, the chain drive held the front and top half of the blower and it just flopped (at a high rate of speed) forward, but never came off the crank sprocket. Probably saved it from being worse. I have looked at chain drives with a completely different perspective since then. Jack's barrel valve hand was injured, but luckily not too much else, other than a gash in the trailer.

    Fraze,
Jack built a copy of one pictured above, I heard about the blower explosion, that was a close one !!!!!! I followed that team for years, watching the names, drivers and cars change. Jim Albrich was the member that was always prominent. Earl Floyd, Bob Haines and a young driver named Ed McCulloch, made the car the one to watch around here.

Out of Eugene, Oregon, the Bev's Steak House car was another of my favorites. RCE chassis, along with a beautiful full body built by a sheet metal shop in Springfield. Cordy Jenson and Bob McCabe were the owners, Cordy (in the center)was the driver and Bob is on his right. Bev\'s 1.jpg Bev\'s 2.jpg Bev\'s 4.jpg Bev\'s 6.jpg

  20. The "cone shaped thing" is a slash burner. Lumber mills used them to burn saw dust, bark, and scrap lumber.

  21. Had not seen Norm's Healey in white before. Thanks for those pics.

Also had not seen the Healey with the wheels up either.

In this picture it sure shows a lot of chrome. Was it as fast as it was good looking?

Heidelberg Speed Shop, don't remember this blown version...(there was no Heidelberg SS, a joke)...don't know who they are racing, maybe Fontana?

    eliminator004.jpg
    Merek Cherktow? at Pomona...

    eliminator005.jpg
No ID for either...Fontana was a great place, thought the lighting wasn't all that great, especially on the top end, and sometimes sand from the nearby grape fields would blow across the track making it pretty slippery...but they treated you right...I think that Don Rackemann once ran it, and later Mickey Thompson did. Completely gone now, under houses.
