Well this isn't a real car but a model car that my dad Bob Blackburn built for the Revell Shows back in '64 and I was wandering if any of you guys have any magazines it was featured i? If so I would be willing to buy the magazine from you. The competition was in August of '64 so I am guessing that it was in a magazine anywhere from october of '64 to maybe january '65. I do know that it was in a magazine because my dad had it but it was stolen along w/ parts of this car (this is why they have the firing squad haha) The article means as much to me as my dad because maybe JUST maybe i could get good w/ metal and build a real car outta this someday.

John, I still have all of the magazines that I have bought since the 60's. The are boxed up and in storage. If you could get more info on which specific book, I might be able to find it for you. Glad you think so much of your Dad's work to honor him. Cost??? None if I can find or have it. It will be a winter-time project, sooooo, hang on and I'll see what I can do.

Don't forget Rod & Custom. They were heavy into models in that era. So was I.

That would really be something if you could duplicate your dad's model in real scale. It looks like it would have been a contender back in the showrod era. Is your dad still around or has he passed on? Now that would REALLY be something if he's still here and you took him for a ride . [IMG]

Johnny, That looks like a model of "The Lil'Coffin", it had several rebuilts over the years and is now restored after a fire that gutted it. I think there was a buildup in a model car magazine back in the early 1960's. I'll look through my stuff, never through out a magazine since my first Hot Rod July 1961! I'd keep the model "As Is", and maybe build a completed clone of it. Then start or the real deal!

Well my dad's still alive but his health is startin to go to shit w/ parkinsons and i think he may be showing symptoms of alzheimers but yes it was the lil coffin model that my dad decided to put a 58 t-bird dash on the ass end of to make it cooler. I'd love to build it someday as a real car and thanks alot K&R. There'd be no way i could rebuild that model seeing how I suck at model building haha.
Thanks alot guys for keeping this on the front page as it means alot to me. Maybe Stem cell research could help find a cure for parkinsons and alzheimers then he'd get to ride in it. who knows but itd be years before i could ever build it seeing how I have a line of cars I have in my mind and feel would be necassary to build for experience. or who knows maybe i could get a shitload of help when i finally decide to build it and I could just paint it (my dad was and still is a painter) and do the bodywork.
Jeeze lookin at this car and realizing i had my hair in a ducktail just sent chills up my back.......

well before i end up slippin into a time machine back to 62 i think im gonna go hit the hay

I jsut realised this as the page loaded back up and remembered my dads little story of how he got 2nd w/ this car because the judges did not like the way the license plate was on a chain instead of mounted solidly to the body and they said it was unrealistic.......I wander if they said that ed roths cars are fake?

Some great coupes were featured in this issue, That is the "Beach Boys" coupe in the lower left corner before George Barris built the more famous nose for it.

Actually, it doesn't look anything like the Lil' Coffin, even the first version. I do like it, though. [IMG]

The owner of the car in 1960 was Dave Stuckey, the car was built by him with help from his boss Darryl Starbird, in Starbirds shop.

I agree, not the lil coffin at all. Heres the only response I've gotten so far...

"Model Car Science did a feature on rear end styling and there is a picture that looks like it is of the car you have. There is no mention of the builder but the article refers to the 1964 Revell- Pactra Model Car contest and to those entries that were just below the winners line.
    Hope this helps.
I will try to locate some of my other old Model mags to see if there is anything there"

Nice stuff Johnny, the models from that era were out of control. I was never big into that style of custom model, but the thought that went into them and the work to achieve them I did and still do admire. Maybe you could get some one to restore the model for you ( K&R? ), just a thought.
Johnny, my father is in the early stages of alzheimers and it ain't no fun for him. It is so sad in many ways, although it does have it's funny moments and he is still very positve but resolved to the fact that he won't ever be like he once was. We have the memories and that gets us through. You have that model from when your dad was well, that is really something to treasure. If I can be of any help with research or even parts to resurrect that custom tudor, don't hesitate to ask Geoff aka Whodaky
