Are all closed car deck lids the same? Or is there a difference in deck lids for different body styles?

All 55-57 non wagon bolt on and fit the same. Main differences are in V emblems and crests and how they mount

I think stock is somewhere between 50 and 60lbs. You can get a flat pin on that weighs 7lbs

What a great story!! Tim check with Jeffords for a lid since he is lord tri-five of that corner of the state. That front axle is business! Can't wait to check the car out.
    Cheers!

Now that the HAMB is back up to speed and subscription notification emails are going out again, maybe this post will get this thread back on my notifications so I don't have to hunt it down, LOL

Have not owned a '55 in couple years but seems trunk was fairly simple shape for a bunch of aluminum tube welded up to support aluminum sheet rivet on for trunk ( or more alum weld ). Gasser can be pretty rough - the old 10 yard paint job should hold up. Have to check if that meets the rules.

If all closed non station wagon deck lids are the same, we can prolly find one to gut to outer skin only.

  10. I haven't been told to fix my crappy paint job yet :D The plan is to paint mine ........... someday.

  11. Nobody cares about Quick 'n Dirty now Tony. Quit trying to revert the thread back to you. It's all about Tim's new '55. Get with the program!

But since you mentioned your heap, any updates on the heads?

  12. I just pinged Nick Smithberg on the head progress. Time to get moving - Silver Dollar opens for test and tune March5th.

Speaking of HEAPS - when is yours hitting the track?

  15. Damn cold here today. Nothing better to do than work on the Sun 404.

There is a place that sells the capacitors and diodes to update power supply in this thing. It was acting flakey so time to fix it. The old vacuum tube is replaced by 2 solid state diodes.

Old caps dry out in 40 year old electronics. Those got replaced.

Then after studying the schematic - the distributor pickup clamp is not going to like getting a 20amp magneto pulse  which I tried but the lights were all over the place. From some past magneto experiments, I had this Joe Hunt magneto converter module. That works much better!

Tony, is that tester set up to also test both point and electronic distributors as well as magnetos?

  20. Its got advance coming in above 1K RPM. I think it was spinning the wrong direction in that video. LOL I messed with it some more and the advance works when the mag goes in the right direction. Apparently you can spin a mag either way but the advance only works in one direction ;)

Its really made for points. The electronic and Magnetos need some signal boost or filter to get the flash tube to fire and produce the arrows properly.

This is old school high voltage stuff - but I think what's going on is, the flash tube -580v is almost enough to make the tube turn on - then the signal from the distributor is amplified to give it the extra kick to flash the gas in the tube.

The Drag illustrated article comes up, unfortunately, on my computer at least, it's too bluury, even when blown way up, to read.
