I have seen a few pics of early customs, specificaly the Hirohata merc with a clear plastic sleeve that held a document, and it had a strap that held it wrapped around the steering column. I assumed it was the registration. I was watching a really bad late 50's movie yesterday called The Wild Ride, and the cop looked into a car to find its owners name, and sure enough, the registration was in a clear plastic pouch , with a strap holding it to the steering column. In my search to find all the correct stuff for an early 50's california custom, this is probably the next item i need to locate, or replicate. Anyone have a scan of an early 50's maryland registration card?
I sure remember them, here's somewhere to start your search http://search.ebay.com/registration-holder_W0QQfromZR40
I'm putting one on my roadster. And the clip on type to the visor on the pick up.You can still find those little things in junkyards. And they fit in your toolbox! Do a fake registration with funny names and places.
Wow, they come up, but the only ones on now is a set of 12 NOS ones. I dont need all that, but it seems on completed, they go for about $20. Thanks. I want to take an early 50's maryland registration, scan it in, and change the lettering to fit my car and my name.
Cool, I've only ever seen the ones with springs around the column, I'm gonna start swipen those @ the 'yards!
I *THINK* I have a reg card for MD from around 52 or so. I'll look, scan it and send you a PM if I find it.
