I'm looking for information on putting disk brakes on an original 40 Willys front axle. Does any one have a disk brake kit to do this?? What have some of you Willys owners done to install disk brake on the stock axles.
A couple of threads here that may help. I used Volvo Amazon /P100 on mine. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/willys-axle-brake-options.275326/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/willys-disc-brakes.528531/
I put '70s Torino disks on my '36 Willys axle before there were kits. Made a wood template of 3/16" plywood that bolted to the spindle and the caliper. Then I flame cut brackets of 3/16" steel I used grade 8 fasteners Had to turn a couple of these steel adaptors that slip over the spindle to accommodate bearings. Spindle length was perfect for the Ford hub, outer bearing fit perfectly, just needed the sleeve to adjust for the inner bearing and grease seal diameters. Chrome plated everything but the caliper.
I've purchased the weld on rear caliper brackets from Speedway, and then cut them to fit on numerous front axles. It gives me an easier place to start so I don't have so much fabrication work building the plates. They sell them for GM SAE, and GM metric calipers. At $10 each it's a cheap start also. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Weld-On-1978-88-GM-Flat-Mount-Caliper-Bracket,21280.html
