Is there a difference in the ride height between 49-52 and 53-54 Chevy spindles? I realize they are the same in physical size, king pins etc.....my question is specifically about the spindle's vertical placement and the resulting ride height. I was told the 53-54 are different by 1".
Not to my knowledge, they are identical. The truck spindles from that period look similar but have a different mounting bolt pattern however. I could be wrong, but have always considered all car 49-54 to be the same. Don
The later spimdles will indeed lower the front (a little less than an inch, actually) Use the later steering arms too, if you can. The brakes are also better than the '49-'50's, as well (Bendix vs. Huck). Down with old cars!
My understanding it's it's only the '54 spindle which is different and when used on a 49-53 will lower the front about one inch.
Same spindle (Chevrolet called them steering knuckles) 49-54. 53-54 did use a different steering knuckle support (upright) and I have read the same in the past, that it will lower it around 1".
