The case for the Generator to my 59 Caddy motor looks the same as the case for a Chevy. Other than things like Tach-drive. Are these generators dimensionally the same? If I had a nice chrome case for the caddy gen, and a nice rebuilt gen for a late 50's chevy or olds, is it as simple as swapping the guts?

I do know that the Chevrolet and Pontiac generators are fairly low amp rating 25-30 amps unless in commercial use 35-40 amp.
I would think that the Caddy and Olds units are of the higher 35-40 amp range.
As far as interchange goes, if the case length is the same I would think that the internals will interchange.

KoolKat is correct Caddys had higher out put field coils but if the length of the generator case is the same you can swap the fields.

Right on, so for the hot rod it should be cool.
