Great story in this one. I'd go along with a HAMB member group donation to the cause. A few bucks X a few hundred of us = a good chunk.

  5. Coolest part of the whole thing I think is the new record is 406.7 and his dad went 406.6 back in the day poetic justice for that car and the team

If you guys want to see this car running, I understand Danny will be running at the Cook Shoot out this month and then the car will go into a museum. As he has said it would from the start.

Make it so, Boss, I bet we could scare up a boatload of dough for Danny. Fantastic story and achievement.

Word is that Danny lost a tire and hit a cone. First car to run this morning. Chute out stopped alright. Some body damage.

Got close-up to this car once a couple years ago. Legendary. Wish I could have seen it run.
I can only imagine what he has had to overcome to accomplish all of this. Sure, obviously we all think money-but so much more to overcome.
Danny Thompson does have something very special.

Today, Sept 16, Danny had a problem with the car while running at Mike Cook's meet at Bonneville
Possibly a blown tire, some damage to the car, Danny's OK. Not a lot of info yet.

Damage, unfortunately, appears to be extensive. We're still investigating what actually happened, but near term repairs are unrealistic. We won't be making any more runs at Cook's. According to our GPS data, we were going 413mph at around the 4.6 mile mark when the accident occurred.

  13. Man, that's a bummer! Glad he's alright and it wasn't worse. I hope he get's everything repaired and runs it again next year.

The tires in a streamliner are cover with body work, as such they get insane hot. Blowing a tire is a by-product. In the 90's when Teague was running, all he had was the old Bonneville tires from the 50's. He almost ran out of tires from what I hear.

Tires fersure an issue. Is there a fundraiser somewhere for Danny yet?
Is he planning on pursuing record, or museum time for the car?
I have one of the "Betsy" tires that was shredded, just made it to stop after 410+.
Needs to be mounted on a wheel as "spare" on the back of my '34, yah?

All the snow covered fields on the prairies got me thinking of the salt flats.

I was looking at the ThompsonLSR page today and it sounds like Danny Thompson and his team will be running Challenger 2 at Speed Week and Cook's Shootout in 2017.

Hope they can get the funding to make this happen, I really want to see this car running!
