  2. I think it's the big diameter wheel/tyre creating that illusion.

It is the reshaped wheel arches that are giving it that look. Later I will see if I can load up the ones I took at the Crosley National meet.

Muttley, Thanks for posting Dave Lukari's Crosley. IMO the most inovative Crosley ever built. Dave was a hot rodder supreme and may he Rest In Peace.

Sadly I thought I had taken better pictures than I did. I wish I could get in contact with him to ask some questions about the build of the car. It has a 2.8 V6 and a 700R4 (I think I am right on the trans). 15" wheels all around, stocks are 12".

While growing up in Long Beach, California my father took us to the Marine Stadium to watch the Boat races held there several times a year.

One of my favorate events was the 48 cubic Inch Hydroplanes.

These boats were usually powered by 44 cu/in Crosley engines that had been modified greatly.

I was told that they turned 10 to 12 thousand rpm.

I remember that they sounded like Indy cars and gave off the smell of the castor oil that was mixed with the fuel.

A few years later I saw a Crosley Hot shot that had one of the boat engines in it.

It would run off and hide from a 55 Corvette up to about 60 mph when it became hard to handle.

Growing up in the 50s was great seeing some of the greatest changes in technology.

Like the last of the ice delivery trucks, real steam shovels and steam Locomotives.

I was also lucky to have a Father who was an observer.

He taught me to observe everything that was changing around me.

Anyway the Crosley engines had a lot of potential for their small displacement.

I can still remember the smell of speed on the water and on the dirt track at the Long Beach Veterans Memorial Stadium where the Midgets and Motorcycles ran using castor oil to temper their fuel.

Be an observer for the next generation so that you will be able to talk to you children, grandchildren and great grandchildren about the changes that you have observed.

Pay special attention to personal liberty and how the government is trying to limit your liberty to drive what you want to drive.

    Dick :)

If you want a good book on Crosley engines and Hydroplanes. You should get this book by Bob Foley Inboard Racing A Wild Ride. Great info and pictures.
I think he is on face book or just type in his name. it's about $20. John

"With a 250- mile cruising range, at a speed of 85 mph, the Aeronca literally will be your dream ship"...:)

    dawford, many thanks for posting.

Thanks jpm49c for engine shots- I'm trying to figure the arrangement of those middle ports. I like the efficient distribution of weight on this engine ( the use of sheet metal).

Back in the 70's at the Antique Nationals at O.C. International or at Irwindale, there was a front engine red dragster running a blown Crosley. Just wondering if anyone has pics or remembers the car. It was turning over 10,000 RPM's and I think it ran in the 10's. It was unbelieveable! Always looked forward to see it run!
