So I picked up this crate engine from an estate sale the motor is zero miles and came as it sits idk from where or what's in it. It does have a dso sticker that is really old and flaking off the valve cover so if anyone knows anything about that let me know. The other thing is I have a aod trans for it and wondering if anyone has used this carb with aod cable combo . This motor has been in a garage for ever that's all I know owner got put in a home so I couldn't get facts .

Also Idk if it matters but its going in my unibody. Does anyone know how much these 223's are worth these days ? This one was rebuilt before I bought it and its in really good shape doesn't burn oil or leak. It's my work truck and ran strong but trans went out so time for a new transplant

Here is the Carb:http://www.mustangtek.com/4160/holley4160.html What you really need to look for to ID this is here: http://www.mre-books.com/interchange/interchange2.html You may want to order that book too.If it is a pre 1982 289-302 it is a 28 oz balance factor the later 302/5.0 that used the AOD were 50 oz so you would need the correct balance flexplate for the AOD.To hook up the Holley get this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOKAR-FORD-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3169928a&vxp=mtr One of our members has posted a youtube video on the AOD TV cable adjustment also.

The 223 was also used in 1954-62 Ford cars and some tractors, you just have to find someone in need at the right time.I noticed the Holley fuel pump mounted on the fender,Bad idea! they are a pusher not a puller and should be mounted as close to the gas tank as possible or it will live a short life.Someone might shoot you an offer on the 223 if you do a profile update with your location as shipping would be an issue.

Nice ! I was reading the wrong code on my block it says d1oe and c8ze on the intake and comprehensive timing cover says c9je is it common for ford to mix up that many dates on their parts ? Or could this be a motor another company built as a street set up ? Thanks for the help

Thanks for the Holley pump tip I didn't know that, previous owner set it up like that. This transmission was given to me free with the 302 but I don't need it it looks like its in good shape it came with the bell housing for a 302 and clutch with flywheel I would like to get rid of it. I took some pics of the codes on it if anyone wants it I'm in Orange County ca

code would be a 1971 block 28 oz balance so you need this for the AOD:http://kmjent.com/index.php/ford-sfi-flexplate-164-tooth-28-oz-289-302-351-c4-aod.html Since many of the 289-302 external parts interchange rebuilders will mix up the parts on long blocks.

Hey thanks Jeff for all the info it really helps I'm starting to learn a lot from all the info people put out on here oh and I think I got a good deal on it. I picked up the motor for 800 and the seller threw in long tube 4 to 1 white headers , a couple steering gear boxes and that three speed with the bell housing, clutch, and flywheel.

Hey Jeff I know the the block is a 302 with 351 heads , my question is what firing order would it be ? It has a distributor on it should I match it to the numbers on the intake ?

Firing order is 15426378,remember on Ford V8's #1 is the first on the left looking at the block from the front and the distributor turns counter-clockwise just the opposite of a SBC.
