This was when the rod building technology was rapidly advancing, and quality of the build was seen like none before. Not my preference in the way of hotrods, but definitely an example of the times and builders proving their capabilities. What will people think of Troy T's and other's award winning masterpieces 30 years from now?

I see it as a reference as to how times have changed. No need to rag on it. There's more skills involved in that build than most could dream to have. But, it's not relevent to this board, I agree.

  8. Agreed ... ;)

Not my cup of tea but it is a part of HRH (Hot Rod History)

Not my kind of roadster, but interesting, a lot on craftmanship went in to the car. Kind of thinking out of the box type.

You guys don't have any sense for history.

    Thanks for posting Johnny!

  15. Fuck me that thing is hidious!, very well built but damn ugly. I personally would be embarrased to be seen driving it. It looks like a glass kit car from the 80's!!

Not my cup of tea but hell I'd drive it anyway. The 80s were an interesting decade for show cars.

  18. Ron Covel built that.

A lot of the styles back then wouldn't work today.. but it's part of our history. Regardless.. I think it looks like a "kit car".. No thx.

I bet it's fun as hell to drive ... but it shouldn't have "1927" or "Ford" anywhere in the title or description.

It just has the 80's look all over it. Just like gamers now adays look at space invaders or pac-man a laugh but it's part of their history just like this four wheeled freak show is part of hot rod history. It was the 80's and this car was totally tubular.

Sure, it's a wild design, but I've always liked it.

Among AMBR winners, it's not the ugliest.

Ron is a great guy and a metal master, I'd be proud to own it.

Well put, It may not be our thing as far a hot rods go but the build was extremely high level at the time the car was built. Someone with the bux will buy it and roll it it out of their collection to be lined up with other AMBR winners at the GNRS an then be tucked away for a few more years before being rolled out to repeat the process. The good thing is that it has been preserved exactly as it was shown and someone didn't decide to update it and make wholesale changes on it as so often happens when a show car gets past it's prime.

And as the Rodster said, it wasn't the ugliest winner and even though it appears that it was never driven it doesn't look like the most uncomfortable or impractical winner.

good video at the bottom of the ad shows the whole car build narrated by Covell. Not my style but it was the style at the time, I bet it is a blast to drive.

  30. I think it reminds me a lot of Tex Smiths asymetric [ZX6?]old red roadster he built as editor at R&C many years ago,but with more details........
