holy smokes, after reading a few of the posts these days you'd swear everybody had multiple canker sores and hemorrhoids...

you'll like this, though- yesterday Jill and I drove the Galaxie to town to obtain obtainables at the local Food Barn.

parked right out front. when we returned from the store, the dad-blamed starter started acting up again- I think it needs new brushes; it'll barely turn the engine 'til it's in just the right position at which point it'll spin merrily.

anyway, I was clickin' and crabbin' for about 15 minutes, but during that time no less than five offers of jumper cables and/or help came our way. that a jump start wouldn't have made a difference was beside the point, and finally the thing started after a bit.

the point is, folks are cool, especially when you're having trouble with an old car, and they want to help. at least, out here that is.

    yep, that's the truth.
naw, right now I'm plowing through some corporando work, but an unnamed patron is allegedly commissioning a big ol' canvas, a Halibrand with some unconventional innards; carrots, squirrels, dancing girls, that sort of thing.

so........what's the word on your Galaxie there, Mr. Tuckner?

  4. People are interesting, that's for sure.

An experience I had a couple of years back was interesting.
The 32's stainless flex fan snagged an aluminum allen plug that was sealing off the trans cooler built into the radiator and tore up the fan.

Once I got around the corner and out of the way with it, people who'd heard the rackety noise stopped to see if they could help.
By the time I got the hood side panels off, the fan removed and the pulley bolted back on along with the side panels replaced, I think 6 or 7 cars had stopped to help.
All in about a ten minute period.

Some had cell phones, some had tools and some were willing to get out and dive in.

Bein in a roadster had something to do with it I'm sure, but it was an interesting little experience.

  5. Sure enough.

I had the same thing happen on the way back from the drags.
SCALLOP54 and I got seperated (he took and exit, and I missed it), so I went up to the next exit and stopped to call on my cel. Every single car that took that off ramp stopped to ask if everything was alright. I really don't think I would have gotten the same, if I'd have been driving my '95 Dodge Ram.
Maybe people in old cars just seem more "real"...
    Beats me.
I only help women with really nice legs in pink short shorts. [IMG]
