So--I was doing some bored-browsing on the local CL ads and came across this 1948 Ford Deluxe Sedan.. I called the owner and got into a very interesting conversation with the owner, the daughter of the original owner who died 19 years ago.. I thought-"it's my day off--I'm gonna go take a look at it and meet a cool person with a neat car-story". So, I gathered up the girlfriend who was interested and took a trip.. About 20 minutes after seeing how solid the car was--I offered to buy it.. So--I'll be bringing another one home in the next couple months as the owner agreed to accept payments for a few.. OH--and the story with the car was fun--learned a lot about the owners family and had some good laughs.. Can't wait to get this car--and drive it..
    Plans are:

    Get it home
    Get it running
    Get it road-safe
    Put new tires on it
Put a few thousand miles on it
Preserve it as it is by just driving it and maintaining it..
It's never been repainted but the OG owner got a little goofy with a rattle can of black spraypaint on the front at sometime--that'll be Easy-Off'd..
    It's a helluva a solid Midwestern car..
Here are some crappy pictures snapped inside the garage..

AND--there's an OG Offenhauser 3X2 setup that'll be going with it...

Like to see more pictures of this one. Looks in decent shape. Shouldn't be to hard to get back on the street.

I'll be headed up to Jefferson, WI this weekend and grabbing some more pictures of it when I drop some $$$ off to the fine folks I bought it from.. They were soo great to hold it for me and allow me to do "lay-away".. :)

BTW--I did a search online to try and find paint chips for 1948, but had no luck. Anyone have a good resource?? Outside appears more grey than green--but the door jambs and trunk allow a more fresh view of the paint being a greenish-grey.. Really like the colors..

  5. Congratulations, looks like you have found yourself a real nice old ride. HRP

Kinda weird how when you get out of bed in the morning..........you never know EXACTLY how the day is going to go. Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you. Looks like you had a nice serving of bear today. Congrats and keep us informed as you get it on the road.

Looks like a 4 dr. from the short door length shown in the interior photo as well as the quarter window that can be seen through the rear window shot.

HEMIFALCON; You said is was a cool story about the car. Do share...

That's pretty cool. Even cooler that they will allow you to buy it on payments. Not many people out there like that.

there no hinges for the back doors in the photo because they are suicide doors on the back, you can make out the rear door handles in the 3rd pic down if your still needing convinced

Hey guys.. It's a fordor--it's got the suicide rear doors with the "couch-sized" rear seat area.. I'm not a big fan of sedans like most of us on here--but can't help but love the massive inside real estate these things have.. And--I plan on making this a daily driver of sorts.. Looking forward to tinkering with the flathead as well..
I'll post up some more pictures this weekend when I go to drop off some $$$ to the now-previous owners..
BTW--Car was found on the west side of Milwaukee.
And--regarding the comment about "eating of bear"--I say it was delicious.. And my girl likes it a lot as well..

    strange hole in decklid...

floors and running boards are in good shape..

not sure where the rust is at--are these fender guards rubber-coated steel formed pieces??

rear windows are vents--should make driving in warm weather very nice..

black paint still shows original underneath..

GADZOOKS, those plug wires are text book "not to do's".
The car is awesome and as big as a bus. I love the round rear ends on those.
Maybe the mystery hole is a misjudge-o-meter for backing up.
I had a Ma Bell van with some of those when I was a kid.

Yeah...those and the leaky coil that looks like someone bypassed the resistor....

I have a '47 Fordor that is in very similar shape! (only no dents in mine...Some trim pieces were missing when my lifelong bud GAVE me the car as a gift...when I got it home, I found every piece in the rear package tray!)

I wasn't too wild about its 'Fordor body', but I've had 2 convertibles, 2 Tudors, and a Club Coupe!
Now that I've gotten to work on it a little, I like it a lot more.
